Are you a lawyer godzilla? maybe a politician... just kidding... don't take that seriously. ;)

Yes, I think you've hit the nail on the head. The appropriate word here is: unethical. I would even go further and say, morally unethical.

haha...nah...i am not a lawyer... just sharing what my opinions. :)

unethical or illegal doesn't make a difference... i will still avoid such shops...LOL

Let me take this a step further then:

Those so-called "reputable shops" that charge a different price for tourists.. What do we call them?

(a) Reputable - because they of the 'good' prices charged to us, locals?
(b) Unethical - because of the blatant discrimination (or because you're a tourist here)?
(c) Saintly modern day Robin Hoods - who rip-off the rich unsuspecting tourists so they can pass the savings to us?

just a quick chime.

I believe this shop, along with Song Brothers has been blacklisted by the Singapore Tourism Board once, when they kept a black list of shops to avoid for tourists a few years ago.

Generally, that camera shop was set up to make a quick buck from the tourists coming in from the terminal, imo. Perhaps, many rich Indonesians? I avoid the above 2 shops at all costs.

Lastly, with all things. Do research before buying, internet is everywhere today, there's no excuse not to find out more.

"I went back and talked to the salesman and he told me that his is a higher quality ones and most shops out there are selling lower end"

Blatant fraudulent misrepresentation.

Do your homework guys.

I second that. After all, why worry about what to call them, when at the end of the day, we should review it on a case to case basis? and TS merely wanted to warn us, so we should be thanking him. so thank you sqapg5.

Really blatant fradulent misrepresentation? Based on that one line? I seriously doubt it. Quality is basically relative and he may actually be able to support his entire claim. However, if legal advice points to the contrary, do take action and let us know too. Law is not as simple as it looks.

Even when it is really a blatant fradulent misrepresentation, that "blatant fradulent misrepresentation" was not a factor in influencing TS to purchase the filter. It was more of a hindsight clarification after the sales has been made. I doubt more action can be done other complaining to CASE.

we worry about what to call them so that we dun land ourselves in a situation where we are called to defend our claims and names that we call the vendor. Defamation and libel suits may be particularly damaging and usually hinges on technicalities of the claims or names.

TS' purpose of warning us is great but his admission of his own mistake of not doing his homework is even more admirable.:thumbsup:

I think I can sympathize with TS's feelings. It doesn't feel good to be cheated, lied to or "misrepresented".

Lets be vigilant and not let people like those in such shops get their way. Stay / avoid such shops!

Thanks TS for warning us, I'm sorry for what happened to you.

As for those who think its TS's fault for "not doing his homework", all i can say is.... one day if it happens to you, then you will know how it feels.

well....TS has admitted he is partly at fault for not doing his homework or research. so the issue is not whether he has done his homework or not.
