She sold me a faulty Minolta 70-210 f4
It has AF backfocus problem.... She did not state the problem but acknowledged the problem when I smsed her the first time. She went MIA after I informed her that I want refund that she promised.

Then I messaged her multiple times about this issue, she actually reported to the police that I was harassing her! This is incorrigible and this severe lack of integrity and morals must be noted. Hence I urge all CS members to beware if you would ever want to transact with her as this might also happen to you.

P.S although you may say that $250 is not much and I should take it as a lesson, please be mindful that students do not have much money and they need to save up for weeks or even months to even get this amount of money...(That depends on how your allowance is though)

As I had just realized, she deleted her post. This further proves her dirty works.

Yes. On BnS
P.S my mistake.... Someone found it later in this post...

Don't think you can delete post on BnS..

But it's no longer there, it disappeared.

every camera behaves differently from another camera. so back focusing may not be a faulty lens. send for calibration.

wow she is really champion...I remember this girl. Not exactly an easy person to deal with. If this is the same lens she bought from me somewhere last year at only at $150, then she had really chopped you Keith. This lens had lost quite a bit of the front coating but you can still get pretty good pictures if you stop down. If I remember correctly, at around 70mm, F5.6 and below should be good. At around 150mm, you need to go to around F7.1 and at 210mm, to around F8/F9. Wide open the pictures are soft and can be rather good for soft-feel type of portraits, like a soft-focus lens. I was originally using this lens for this purpose. She bought the lens after having been informed of the condition of the lens and told how to make it work better if she wants sharp pictures. I don't think it had back-focus. At least it didn't seem to behave like that on my A33.

Not sure if she told you all these when you bought the lens, and you should really have tested the lens before you bought it. Haha...I myself was also not careful recently. Bought a lens that was hazy inside. Couldn't really tell because of the low orange lighting inside an MRT station and only found out during weekend in daylight. Contacted seller and he did not even reply. Luckily I managed to clean off most of the haze and had it back to working order. Lesson learnt here too. ;)

It had that on my a55... May I know where I can repair this lens at reasonable rate? I need it back at working order before selling it again...

This lens is no doubt good but a lens with AF problem is as good as useless I should say...

Jonathan:Where and how can I calibrate this lens??

Woah how many cameras do u have?

Maybe u can try the camera workshop at peninsula, Te camera hospital at -somewhere I don't know- or u can contact David our CS repairman (nick: fatigue) for price quotes and such. However fatigue is out of Te country till around early August.

Anyway if the problem is that it back focuses, then no one can save you besides the good ol Sony service centre. Send in both items for calibration and they will fine tune the lens to fit your camera. But it won't be cheap

A lens without AF is far from being "useless". You need to get rid of the mentality that a piece of equipment is "useless" simple cuz it doesn't work for u. There are many awesome lenses out thr that are purely MF. Perhaps now you can practice manual focusing with it. Who knows it may even come in handy.

If your camera is also consistenly back-focusing with other lenses, I think you should send lens and camera to Sony for calibration first before spending more money to "repair" the lens. Try to get/borrow another long lens and focus at something near (ideally a focus check chart laid 45 degrees to the lens axis) to get shallow DOF and check if your camera is indeed back-focusing. With the kit lens, it would be hard to tell because of the deep DOF of that lens. If the camera got problem, then you have no need to send the lens for "repair".

Well try shooting sports and action, wildlife without AF.... I'd agree to your point in Great MF lenses like Minolta Rokkors and legacy etc. however I have no much use and needs for them as I seldom shoot street or stills. Well I can say I have two camera body because this alpha camera is my brother's and I can borrow it...

I did try manual focusing however SLT is not in my favour as it is EVF which means details are lost.

Sony does not support repair for minolta anymore... Which is saddening..

I can confirm its the lens problem.

Because I own a 3.5-5.6 70-300 and it does not back focus.

did the police contacted you that you were reported?
woahhh, must be careful next time bro in BnS...

Before auto focus was invented sports action and wildlife were shot using manual focus. In fact, some are still shooting them using MF today

Wow keith! Better be slow next time, try to test e lens accordingly.

Then, what did u say to police?

I hv one buyer complained to me about one of the lens to sell, bcause i told him 7 days warranty, he went back to me within 3 days and refunded the money.

But thats because i hv shop and name to maintain :) other personal seller will not bother to contact u again.

Anyway, u can go to Andrew Phan @ peninsula, pg photography, ask him how much to dix.

Fudge cake... That's provided if I am a before 85's photographer.
Yeah lesson learnt.....

Dronell: thanks for informing me about where j can repair the lens. I did do a brief check during the transaction but the really check was they next day where I went to pilau Ubin to do some wildlife photography where I found out the problem. Then within one week I called back...
