We would like to share the following details of the culprit to facilitate in locating the equipment.

Name: Muhammad Haikel Nurafiq
NRIC: S9345581I
Address: BLK 284 #02-334, Choa Chu Kang Ave 3, S(680284)
Contact: 82054922/90534208

He loaned the lens for 3rd of May and was supposed to return them by the 4th of May. We have paid a visit to his place on the 5th of May, where we found out that the suspect did not stay there despite it being his registered address according to the Police.

Anyone with information that may assist in locating the suspect and/or any of the lens previously mentioned is encouraged to contact both us and the Police.
We would be highly appreciative of any assistance relevant to the case, and we wish to conclude this unfortunate incident in a positive light. As such, if the culprit were to voluntary return these lens, we are open to the idea of putting this matter to rest.

think the police should hve already put up a police gazette on him? sure catch one cannot run. but whether the gear still with him is another story.

We hope that everyone coming into contact with the recent sales of Nikon 24-70 and 70-200 VR II are aware of this situation and exercise due caution while dealing.

Searched social media with his email yet?

I suggest that the mods allow this rental company to post this announcement in the nikon BS section so that potential buyers are more aware of this?

Search his Facebook ? Twitter?

Maybe post his details in your Facebook so that Facebook users will know about him?

Thanks again for all the inputs.
These are the two links that have been gathered so far. You will see photos of the guy who rented the equipment. Do share with us any related findings especially if you recognise the male in the photos.

Have u go around in those 2nd hand shops?

I suspect the guy might sell the lensesto those shops.

Since u know his wife, try to contact the wife and tell her what happened. Maybe she will talk to him about it.

Search her FB account, etc.....

I think they con the lens to feed their babies .... No point searching for them! Vanish in air

Police is still investigating the case. We have also managed to get in contact with the suspect and his parents. According to the suspect, he claimed to have lost the lens and promised us that he will purchase new sets to compensate us by tomorrow, 12th May. We hope this case may conclude by then. Otherwise we will continue to pursue this matter.

Hope they will. Nice alibi btw

I smell lots of bs from this guy. Lost both lenses? Why not he lose his baby as well?

What's the chances of losing both lenses? And lost already, didn't come back to make a report?

Don't let this guy off. Ask for more compensation for loss of rental business.

For all you know he might be pulling a fast one or diverting attention. He has clearly broken the terms in the contract with Lens for Lease, and I think the rental people are nice enough to give him a chance to redeem himself rather then go all out to make this a huge legal fiasco, which I'm sure it would not be in the best interests for both parties.

They do have the right to claim for loss of rental business if they want since the customer clearly ran away with the lenses. They could have rented out the lenses if they had been properly returned, and since they had not, the customer may be liable for compensation to Lens for Lease for loss of business. Hopefully this would end in Lens for Lease's favour.

True. I never thought of that. Haha

I'd know what to do if I lose the lenses that I rented.

I'd immediately call up the lessor while simultaneously walk to the nearest police post to file a lost report.

Anybody who finds the lenses but keep them for their own use may be found guilty of criminal misappropriation.

If the guy tries to sell the lens in Singapore, he's begging to get caught.

In any case, I can close the case amicably with the lessor. I'm pretty sure the lenses are all insured anyway. So I believe things can be worked out between us.

That is exactly what any decent client would do. However, our culprit made no attempt to contact us when he claimed to have lost the lens. He claimed to have sent us one sms and it happened to be the one in which we have never received. No attempt was made to call or even email us regarding the situation, and later on the culprit claimed these ideas never struck his mind. Apart from giving these disturbingly hilarious details, our culprit used multiple prepaid numbers which were all non-contactable saved for the most recent number- 97232715 that was provided by his mother. He also called from various public phones previously promising us that he would be able to purchase the lens to compensate us by Saturday 12th May. Recently, he said he would not be able to pay back the lens on Saturday as his cousin needs to apply for new credit cards. Then right after this, the cousin called us claiming that she will try her best to settle this equipment that is owed by our culprit.
We must stress that our intent has never been to punish the culprit. In fact, we are willing to forego the claim on the loss of revenue and even the overdue rental fees(which is already more than a week) if the culprit were to demonstrate initiative in working out a reasonable and swift settlement solution.
Lastly, we will persist in our efforts to retrieve the lens, and we will pursue his family and guardian with all available legal means. It is regrettable that our time and energy are diverted to this case as opposed to providing a useful and valued service to the photography community. We definitely appreciate the concern and support that some our clients and members of this forum have shown.:)

Whatever it is or was, that cuprit is dishonest and bet he should be arrested for stealing someone else property. What a shame and really dishonest . No money? Then dont bothered to rent a lens.. it is so obvious that he is cheating by giving a false hp numbers and failed to return the lens on the date given, failed to return call and giving all sort of excuses? No balls! I hope he wl get caught asap. Hate this type ppl. Period!
