I can't remember which shop because I bought my first compact camera in Liverpool. After using for 2-3 weeks, those lens give me some mechanical noise, I bring back for checking and he just change a new one for me. Most of the time they order in batch, so for them to deal with supplier are easier. Just imagine we treat our camera like our kid, but in factory those worker treat them like animal.. For shop owner it's just a product which they won't check one by one when they receive those shipment, and there is no 7 days rules for them because they can't confirm they could get customer in 7 days. XD
