yes the low-pass filter is actually pretty hard. iirc, i saw in some site stating that the low-pass filter is actually of hardness 5-6 (10 being diamond and 5-6 hardness is around quartz). but that news was like 3yrs+ ago, so im not very sure if the changed the material used to make the filter. :dunno:
I think the next time I got big blobs of dust, I'm going to stick a non-scratch lens tissue wet with non-residue cleaning solution into my D70s sensor and see if I'll ruin anything. ;p

First, don’t be put off by Nikon’s disclaimers (both Fujifilm and Kodak endorse user cleaning if done properly). The Lithium Niobate filter over the D1 and D100 CCDs is somewhat difficult to scratch if you use the right tools (on the MHOS Scale of Hardness table that ranges from talc at 0 to diamond at 10, Lithium Niobate is a 5, the same as Apatite, and a bit lower than Orthoclase and Quartz; Fujifilm and Kodak don't identify the material they use [nor does Nikon on the later cameras], but it seems just as durable). While it's possible to scratch the filter surface, it's also not at all easy to do if you're using the right tools.

there is this light blue blower with a metal nozzel, that is the best blower i have ever used
sorry don't know the brand

i have the blue blower with metal nozzel ur talking about. but i do not see anythign special about it. why do u say its good? i found it just like any other blower of the same size...

it is called A*F blower.

Lenspen sensor clean works for me!
Try with blower first, if still got dust, use the sensor clean.

Be careful with that one.. if you squeeze too hard, the metal nozzle may shoot out like a projectile and its target is......

Agreed with above be very very careful with it.

I called NSC yesterday, and they told me that i need to pay for CCD cleaning even though my cam still under warranty.

He said warranty does not cover cleaning. Is that true?

that's odd. when my d70s was still under warranty, the ccd cleaning was free.

could there be a change in policy or were you just given wrong info? :dunno:

Perhaps i should just call them again to verify...Or anyone here has just send their camera to NSC for ccd cleaning just recently?
