Best Travel lens for Dx body

I'll bring 18-105vr. Compact, light, sharp and VR works quite well. Most of the time, the extra reach is no use.

I'm deciding on whether to get the Nikon 18-200mm or the 18-300mm, the price different is about $300 and the weight different is about 300g. Which one would be the better choice? Has anyone actually own a 18-200 then upgrade to a 18-300? Maybe cam share your view. Thanks.
Nikon

I rented the Nikon 18-300mm instead.

I travelled recently with D90 and AF-S 40mm f2.8G Micro. Very light combo, good glass, and the constraints will make your phototaking experience more exciting and interesting due to the difficulty in composition. For night shots, you may wanna bring a AF-S 35mm f1.8G or AF 50mm f1.4D (I brought the 50mm).

24mm f2.8D is small and relatively light..

Ya l travel wif 24mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.8 most of the time the zoom lens l dont reali use much

I always use my sigma 17-50mm f2.8 for travel, for wide angle shots..

for travel I used 17-55mm best for medium shots. always move around to get the shots.

Yah I'll bring these 2 as well. 24mm on dx is gd focal length, while 50mm has shallower dof and even lighter...

No such thing as best of course..

I usually travel with Nikon 18-200 lens for its versatility. I will usually bring along a 50mm 1.4 for shallow depth of field and low light condition. This combo has served me very well. Once in a while I will bring along Tokina 11-16mm for land scape but I rarely use it.

My friend take 18-105 and 50/1.8 for travel, turn out he say got 2 lense difficult to change, so end up use 18-105.

After 1 week in Spain and Portugal (I am still here), the only lens I use is the 17-200 with the rest adding to the weight to my bag!

I don't know, when traveling, maybe a single lens is enough unless you are going on a photography tour group. 17-50 f2.8 seem about right.

Sorry, what I mean is 17-50 not 200! Always hoping for that 200 range haha. It would be too heavy too.

Hi, I'm going to Koran next week and I was thinking to bring a 14-24 mm and 105mm lens.
Do u think I need to bring the 70-200 along ?

I think the best lens is the one you have with you at that point of time..as always..

There was a good review by Nikon magazine in UK on DX Nikon 18-200mm which was rated 5 star in a british magazine which was very impressive. You should consider to look into this model.
