I just bought one in Jakarta 2 weeks ago at SGD 588.
Like the 580EX, the 580EX II features a zoom-capable flash head. The zoom setting can be set manually (for creativity) or automatically by the camera communicating with the flash. Included in the communication is the FOVCF (1.0x, 1.3x or 1.6x) of the compatible digital camera body being used (film cameras are 1.0x/full frame). The zoom setting is optimized for the camera and lens being used - Less light is wasted, battery life is maximized. This means that the Canon EF-S 10-22mm USM Lens is supported on EF-S compatible Canon bodies. A lens wider than 24mm (or equivalent framing) requires the pull-out and flip-down diffuser panel to be used for complete frame flash coverage. A lens wider than 14mm (such as the Canon EF 15mm Fisheye Lens requires bounce flash or an accessory diffuser such as a Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce. Rotating the flash head to bounce position results in a 50mm zoom position.

Just got mine today at Harvey Norman (Funan) for $599. Everything seems to be there. Flash + manual + stand. Bought it cause it was cheap but don't know if I'll have any use for it. Anyways I think this offer is not part of their 3 day sale (which ends today) so can probably get it still tomorrow.

Apparently there is a purchase with purchase promotion from canon singapore. The price is $599 for purchases made with 50D.

Enterprising shops will be "unpackaging" this.
I have both the MkI and MkII. If I remember correctly, there weren't that many promotional prices during the MkI days. $599 seem to be quite a common price for MkII.

called Manly and was told that they run out of stocks...
if any1 got idea wif the unpackaging from any outlet which is willing to let off for $600..kindly pm me..

Got mine at Funan as well today @ SGD599/580EX and SGD119/270EX
jus went down...heard 1 of the senior mentioned that there are 11 stocks for 580exII but i act blur by asking whether is there any 580EXII available and they told me no more...
after tat...the senior automatically mentioned that the price is $667 or somewhere instead of $599...
i was like...er...ok fine.... this senior salesman was there since last yr when i first started out...
hence to Shahrulesa..perhaps u were lucky to get a new salesman whom make a mistake?!.. tat's wat i felt when i left the store coz the senior was a bit stern while mentioning 11 stocks of 580 EXII with another sale person..
