Best Canon Lens for Food Photography?

I prefer to shoot macro and primes too. I tend to shoot close so macro works well for me. Back in those days when I didn't have the macro lens I used a 50mm with extension tube. That was quite hard to use because of manual focusing. Now I use a lot of my 100mm macro and the occasional 35mm prime and 50mm too. I recently started a cook and shoot and project just for the heck of it. Have a look at the effects of the macro lens:

I personally prefer using macro lens. I dun need a really dedicated macro lens or rather, a basic macro function will do. Seriously, u can take nice food photos without fantastic lens.
Even a E-PL1 with 14-42mm kit lens can also produce nice quality. I think the most important thing in food photography is to control your aperture and lighting. But of course, a macro lens will helps a bit.

Btw i'm using Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 macro for food. I like it with a standard zoom on my APS-C.

Wouldn't say the best, but sufficient to suit my needs in terms of pricing, weight and capabilities - 50mm f1.8
It really depends on what you define as best too

I normally just shoot the food I enjoy for casual purpose, not really food photography. I prefer to use 50mm f/1.8, mainly because i like the sharpness it gives me. Its a bit tight in most restaurants, and I was once recommended to use 35mm or even 28mm. I guess there is no right or wrong, just how you normally prefer to have your food shot, then perhaps that will decide which lens is more appropriate for your style.

I find my EF 24-105 F4 enough for me for food photography. Just need a saturation boost to make it looks nicer.

Like what others said, there is no specific lens for this genre of photography. You just have to pick a lens with focal length(s) you're comfortable of.

Best for food is probably the TS-E90mm f/2.8.

depends where you want to head to with food photography.
Normal food photography for yourself probably any lens will do.
commercial wise probably a tiltshiftlens AND a macro lens. Combinations on what you want to achieve.

Lighting, styling, and props are extremely impt too.
Plus food cooked for commercial photography arnt too edible at the end of the day.
Have a look around and see what requirements are or what kind of props they use.. and you may be wide eyed with amazement...

are you trying to take funky food photography? -> focused on one bit eg the fried prawns and everything else blur

or something to tell others that the food is yummy with lots of details?
