as per title.

budget <$300

Look around for last year's models on sale.
I saw some ads for such camera in HN from Canon. Under 300. Good luck

Nikon Coolpix A

depends what you are looking for. sensor size? zoom? fast lens?

You can find a used P&S with 26-130mm/2.8 lens for $100. yep, f2.8 throughout the zoom range. small sensor though 1/2.3" . (Olympus XZ-10)

Nikon Coolpix A is great buy you'd be hard pressed to find one for SGD300. Maybe USD300? large APS-C sensor, but fixed focal length.

alternatively, a used Sony RX100 MK1, saw one on B&S recently going for $280.

Nowadays... most H/P take decent enough photos... so, unless you are aiming for a DSLR... I'll stick with a 'new-ish' midrange handphone camera...

this is more for travelling actually. i'm not lugging my dslr w equipments while overseas. looking for pocket size kind. as long as pics quality is not too grainy in low light condition, then it's fine for me, but of cos having a RAW format would be a great addition, but not a necessity.

well, as for smart phone i just bought a xiaomi redmi note 4 (guess a bit too late to change to a mid range smartphone) but not sure whether the image quality as compare to canon SX series PNS.

the camera on the Xiaomi is not very good. you will do better with a canon PNS like the Ixus 285 HS.

You can consider GoPro action camera clone = Xiao Yi or some other brand :bsmilie:

The action camera have wide angle lens but for landscape photos, be prepare to do some photo editing to correct the lens distortion at the side.

The action camera also take reasonable good video.

Has been using my XiaoMi smartphone most of time.
In fact I think now beside doing assignment, my main camera is my phone.

Personally feel unless u go for high end compact camera, else can use your phone unless you feel u miss out on something (eg want manual control etc)

Previously using Mi4i, used it during my Bkk trip last year.
They are not great, but decent enough for my casual shoot. Good enough for some small print also.

Now I am using Mi5.

How about some old m34 cameras? A Panasonic GF1+zoom kit or Olympus equivalent would be about <$300. Slightly larger than a P&S. Or the Sony RX100 mkI as suggested by zaren. Shoot in raw.

The diminutive RX100 already mentioned is an impressive camera. I've read great things about the Canon stuff the past few years. Panny and Oly mid history units pretty good. Don't forget to take a look at the Fuji boys. Pentax has some great offerings all with backwards lens capability and 1.5 crop sensors. It is a strong crowd to wade through.

Vroom...what dslr system do you currently use?
