I love #29 and #32
Nicely done :)

@livideyez - Thanks a lot! The comments are appreciated :)
And, now, on to work. Groan
Cheers, Ben

I'm picking up a couple of filters today; GND, ND4 and a Brown filter.
Will be my first time experiencing creative filters, so I am looking forward to showing what I've done with them.
Stay tuned!

Looking forward for the work with the filters...cheers Ben!

A couple of takes from my first go using creative filters this morning at Labrador Park.

My first impression is that I love using these filters!

The first photo is using 3 filters stacked (GND, ND4 and Brown); a bit of overkill, maybe, but
if you don't try you'll never know, eh! The second photo is basically the same composition
and is based on a photo (see: http://is.gd/8Dk3f) using GND and Brown filters,
however I converted it to B&W, which I think looks pretty handsome :)

I have a confession. When shooting, I completely forgot to check the control dial until later
and realised I was shooting many photos on Aperture-priority mode. I wonder how it would
have changed things were I on "P" or another mode. Well, there's always another day!

Looking back, I think maybe it's a bit dark (#35). What do YOU think?
No time to go through photos tonight, so the next installment will be over the weekend :)

(shot date: 19 Feb, post date: 20 Feb)

(Sony A200, 50mm, f4.0, 1/250 sec, ISO 100)

This is quite a close crop from a much bigger scene, so the clarity is lost somewhat.

(44) Bird's eye view - Bank and roll
(shot date: 24 Feb, post date: 3 Mar)

(Sony A200, 20mm, f5.6, 1/50 sec, ISO 100)

This was my submission for a monthly photo competition on another forum (just
for fun; no money involved). The theme for the February competition was "Bird's
eye view". I wanted to capture something like what a bird may see flying along in
a wooded area.

This particular shot was taken just off the road near to Sime Road (next to a large
pile of large storm-water drain pipes). Shooting time was mid-morning (around 10am).
The shot was taken very simply; hand-held at a tilt and above-the-head, manual
focus at infinity, shoot-and-hope! Back home, I desaturated the colours a bit, boosted
the shadows, added the motion blur effect and the burnt edges.

The photo was selected as the winning entry for the month! I am humbled :)

congrats! great job! would be even better if the zoom blur was achieved through the lens instead of pp, i tried many times but failed terribly...haha

i do see some traces of the abstract style from forumer "Dearchivsm" in your shots too. :)

Thanks for your comments! I agree with you that it'd be better if the effect was done in-camera. Well, I realised at the time that it'd be pretty difficult to do that while holding the camera above my head! Having a tripod would perhaps be a good starting point and that reminds me to add that to my shopping list (I hv a lousy old one that I found lying around home but it's so light-weight and stiff and generally sucky that I don't even bother bringing it out with me anymore). Well, in any case, this will be something to try more of and hone the skill. First thing first is to break this photography mini-drought I've been experiencing for the last week or so. I'm itching to share some photos :)

As for your comment about my "dearchivism"-esque style, well, yeah I've admired his work since I first picked up a DSLR and signed up with Clubsnap in Sept/Oct '09. Really, I love his style. Earlier on, I blatantly aped a couple of his shots for training/comparative purposes but otherwise, and since then, I try to keep it my own. Still, dearchivism is one local photog whose work I really appreciate and admire.

Ok, thanks again for leaving your comments; it is appreciated :)

Cheers, Ben

Well, everyone, it's been quite a few days but my mini photography drought has finally
come to an end. I have two new photos to share. Since my last posting, I've traded my
Sony camera for an oldish Canon 30D. I'd always wanted to try the xxD series, so now I
have my chance. So far, I am enjoying the hell out of it!

A slightly abstract photo this time around. I have a thing for rainy days and I challenge
myself to make the gloomy look appealing or interesting or not-so-gloomy.

(46) How I like my coffee

My other principal obsession! A latte from my Rancilio Silvia espresso machine. Delicious.
This photo displays my like of desaturated colours and shadows.
