..... The other memorable torch lighting was the archer shooting his arrow to light up the final torch!

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

that was in Seoul 1988.

I wonder if the closing ceremony will showcase Shao Lin

correct..NDP no standard like the beijing more awesome!
just a basic fireworks..tsktsk. lets demand we want more!
:D
More taxpayer's money going up in smoke you mean...

lets hope so....

I don't expect the scale to be like Beijing's but at least i believe it will be better than any NDP we have seen. :)

Waiting for the day where Singapore will be the last country (host) to walk into the stadium to loud cheers. The contingent will probably be the entire Sports School but that's the closest we can get, a big host contingent like the main Olympics. :)

I think it is natural for people to compare … especially our garment always says that we are a world class country wat :bsmilie: actually if budget is a concern I personally don’t mind if the NDP is done once every 3 or 4 years for a really great performance instead of an same old annual thing (so I was told since I don’t follow) … kekeke

I am so happy China is hosting the Olympics! Although they lost to Australia by one vote in the 2000 bid but it was for the best.

As a Chinese, I m very happy to see this happening on a memorable day. After all it's where some our roots came from and for those who are still directly link with their families back in China.

This is the most spectacular Olympics opening. Nothing beats this......:thumbsup::thumbsup:

For NDP........I guess some are "force to go to be volunteers".......keke.

For the Beijing Olympics, I think the volunteers are "proud" to be joining as part of the 15,000 volunteers.

No doubt the Olympics can't be compare but even the China National Day celebration is much more interesting than the NDP ones......

the rarity & scale of celebration compliment 1 another. for China, the pride to make the best impression is there, and they can well afford to put up a grand show. they are spending within their means.

as a host nation with a booming economy, they have wad it takes to deliver. ahem,.. except for the less than perfect air quality... :embrass:

I wonder if sg will ever get a chance to host one. Maybe in our grandchildren's time?

I think the opening ceremony was really an eye opener. Really excellent. Just the part that the 2600 qigong guys running and towards each other and stopping at the correct spot is very hard to achieve, esp in the darken chaotic environment. I did NDP marching before and its hard to spot your marker and I'm not even running. :bsmilie:

No surprise that there are lots of fireworks, afterall, china invented fireworks and gunpowder.

Very impressive showing. Money well spent.

Some of the performance reminds me of the "Impressions Liu Sanjie" show I watched in Yangshou, also by the same director.

Although I'd consider myself pretty pro-S'pore and am proud of our NDP, but I must say I'll have to agree with TS... Beijing Olympics opening is aeons ahead of our best NDP in terms of technology, aesthetics, and of course, budget... Zhang Yimou as artistic director for the show really can see the difference
