Beginners Outing(Part 22)-Jurong East/Chinese Garden on the 14 August(Photos thread)

Hi Skylover,
Thanks for your comments
Today's outing plan for me, was to take tighter shots. For a change, only have the 70 - 200 lens with me.
#1; with the focal length I have, I thought the branch is more interesting than the whole Bonsai.
#2 again with the same lens, no more space behind already. Move further means going swimming in the lake..............:D

lolx.. no worries.. I juz want to ask and clarify first.. Cause i'm not sure what lens or in what situation u r in. Since you say you are using telephoto and moving behind further more is lake then I got nothing to say lor.. lolx ^^

Cannot lah:sweat:

why sweat? lolx.. can ma..

Just a suggestion that you start off with learning to use your wider angle lens first because you can still crop the wide angle picture but you can't as you say keep walking back until fall into the lake! :bsmilie:

Normally, the standard lens is more versatile than the telephoto. Hmmm... in fact i've not touched my telephoto for almost a year now.
Bro... no worries.. I juz want to clarify about it.. cause i duno if its was intended or there might be other reasons. As what she has mentioned, that is good enough to clear my doubt. ^^

Hi all, hope you all learn a bit during the morning.
camera and lens are just tools,

my humble inputs,

For MGohzxc
1 the forgound leaves should not be in the frame. the subject were cropped in many areas
2 relook at the shoot, what are ou trying to say in it, if we are thinking of the same thing, the shot should be tighter.
3
4
5 i like this the most among all your shots, would making it B&W with higher shapening and contast make it stand out more?
6

For Ongoinglearner
1 could crop in more for better effect
2

For WahSehMan
Bro, your pics abit small
1 try pushing the sudject closer to the rule of 1/3 area (bottom left)

Hi SHLEW,

First and foremost. You have quite a brilliant shots. Well done.

For your #2, in my opinion, it would be best to show the cross section instead of the way you are showing in your #2 or where possible, go with the flow of either direction of the cars that is traveling with the other side coming towards or away from you then it would be nice. Of course there's no right or wrong to what you have taken as like I mention its my own preferences of intersection. ^^

#06, try not to cut off the roof plus the left hand side one of the pattern is chop off. I'm not sure if that was done on purpose or due to space constrain. If its space constrain then may want to consider doing 2 part shot for that particular shot and sitch them together.

I'm no expert here just giving some personal opinion.

Cheers ;)

Hi skylover,
Thanks for your advice.
#02 Will take note on concentrating vehicle movement in one up & down direction. I cropped the left side off where the intersection was actually located because there was a stationary car waiting to turn, so I thought the pic would not look nice with all vehicles blur except one. Just trying out my fader filter!:bsmilie:

#06 You are absolutely right that this is definitely a lousy shot. I did not include the head of the boat - the left side.
The roof was cropped off intentionally (which is bad) because I did not like the slight tilting angle of the roof top, although the pillars are vertical. Probably due to "slant phobia" advice by dd123!
Thanks & Cheers - still in the learning process

Hi Veera,
For a while I thought I went into the wrong thread such as macro outing!!:o Ha-ha
#2 Good shot. The head in focus with nice greenish/greyish bokeh background.
#10 Good composition. The lotus leaf shielding the lotus flower. Its a pity the leaf is not fresh green.
Cheers.

haha.. no worries.. we are all here to learn and share. There is no definite right or wrong here. Everybody's perspective is different. For your #06, maybe can use the base of the boat as guide while the pillar as the second guide line to make it look straight. To me, that is a small issue as it can be PP and corrected. Cutting off the roof and the head of the head may not e a good idea as it spoil the image. I rather it be a bit slanted than chopping what is supposedly to be a nice scene.

Don't worry about DD123, he has got sharp eyes for lines which I think we can learn from but what is important is, you must first love your own photos. If you don't love it yourself than others won't love it too. ^^

#6 [Special] - Garden Landscape.

i feel that this one, you should shoot at a smaller aperture, meaning up your aperture.
:)

and to add on, up your aperture and focus something nearer to you like the rock.
