becoming a photography assistant & digital imaging artist

hi, i'm a newbie here. been lurking around for a while. it can get pretty intimidating with all the professional sounding talks. :embrass:

i have a question. i would like to do assisting work full time to kickstart my photography career. i am also interested in doing digital imaging. from what i see in the newspaper ads, most of the time, these requirements go hand in hand.

passion is one thing. but i would very much like to know how the salary range would be like for a full time assistant or a full time digital imaging artist. will there be a pay increase over a few years? or do people just go after learning all they can and start doing photography on their own?

i have some skills with photoshop though i am still very far away from being really good. and i have assisted a few times to know what would be required of me.

hope to hear from some of you out there.

btw, i'm still trying to get the hang of this, so please be patient with me!! n what is PM or UPZ btw??

boogie, my first paycheck was for $650.
but once u gain reputation and skill, you can earn up to 4 times that salary or more.
standardstarting salary for fresh people is $1200 for commercial studios.

freelance assistants charge anywhere from $120-$250 per 8hours


Di artists are the money magnets... learn how to do DI and do it well, you will rake in the big bucks.

DI houses : magic cube, magic tree? procolor, wishing well,black magic, miracle factory.
