Battle of the lens (Minolta Mount)

Apologies for the late interest. I'd like to come and look-see-look-see if you and the others don't mind. What I own is (see below) already being provided by others but I'd just like the chance to meet up with other Minoltans.

Can you PM me with the outing details? If it's Saturday (whole day) or Sunday (morning-2pm) I might be able to make it.

100mm f2.8 Macro (D)
50mm f1.4
5400HS flash

Tamron:
28-200mm 3.5-5.6

Assume you 50 f1.4 is a newer version of 55mm diameter, then you can contribute your 100mm F2.8 and 50 F1.4, -7- can't make it

Has the testing been done?

The logistics seems insurmountable.

Seems to me it would make much more sense to batch all the like-lenses together, rather by people's schedule. Doesn't make sense to test a ultra-wide against a telephoto, does it?

Personally, I would want a highly controlled test with well-defined objectives. For example,

- a newspaper shoot to test light falloff (w/ and w/o UV filter) and contrast
- near focusing (1 to 3 metres) to see bokeh and color rendition
- structure with lots of details to test sharpness (may need B&W film)
- some backlit shooting to test for flare

Lighting must not change; tripod must not move; ground must be stable, etc. Need to test at widest aperture (f/2 for fast lenses), a common mid aperture (ie f/3.5, for slower lenses), f/8 and maybe f/16.

Tests are not easy to carry out, and not much fun.

I would like to thank nhyone for the advice.

There is no intention of comparing results between wide and tele. Tele will pit itself with other tele of coz. The objective is to get as many lens as possible for the test. The selected date is the date I have most lens not the most people.

I do agree that such test are not fun. Can learn from possible pitfall and future test can be improved and extended for other people like Nikon or Canon or etc.

The test methodology have already catered for the different aperture settings required to make this test more meaning.
