battery grip

Hi bro care to share with us the link where you bought your grip?

Thanks!

Sure, I got mine from Ebay. The seller is called LinkDelight.

Search in ebay for this item

"Battery Grip 4Canon 550D T2i BG-E8+2x LP-E8+Remote B2T"

Don't wish to post the direct link in case I violate any selling rules here.

They also have battery grips for other models.

Why not just get the Phottix brand grip locally from RDP?

3rd party for all u know, may have some communicating problems with your body.
Safe proof, get original one, guarantee no problems. Unless u can afford to risk. I personally wont..

If u trust the reviews and need to cost saving, well, go for it!

Oiginal or third party, it's really a "heng" or "suay" thing.

Relating my experience a few years ago...I'm a guy who tries to get original parts as much as possible if I can afford it. So I decided to get a brand new original Canon batt grip for my 400D. So after I bought it, load the batteries on it and plugged in the grip to the main body, it batt grip short-circuted itself and also affected the power supply component of the 400D body. And to my horror there is no warranty on accessories, and my 400D warranty is already expired...but still I took them down to the Canon Service Centre and showed/explained to them what happened, along with the date of purchase as proof. And although there is no warranty on either items, they did a free repair and both a working perfectly until today.

So really, there is no right or wrong...all depends on your wallet and the risk you are willing to take...there's no perfect solution either way, but buying original means you have a recourse against the big brand like Canon.

Got mine from eBay after seeing all positive reviews from internet, Phottix brand for my 550D with lithium battery tray and AA battery tray, also comes with 2 lithium batteries at $100 plus shipping from HK, cheaper that RD. Think they selling $130 without battery.

i'm using canon 500D and they have stop producing the battery pack for it. Asked a few shops they dont carry it anymore. Was thinking of which to get. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

You mean that Canon stop producing the battery grip for 500D? I can still see it posted on their website http://www.canon.com.sg/personal/products/dslrs/eos-accessories, and last time i came down to CSC for product orientation seminar, i saw it on display there. might one to go down Vivo to get one, but afraid much pricier thou. I saw some postings here in CS with regards to Phottix, they say it is good. Might want to do a search.

Thanks for the replies. I bought a second hand one in great shape except for a few scratches.

yes the obvious answer is to buy the original one if you can afford it. Then again I would agree with some of those who posted here that it is a matter of luck. I had to pay for repairs on my original grip just after a few weeks of using it.

I am using a thrid party with a time-lapse function (only used it a few times), about extra 10usd. The only problem I found is the base of the grip is not totally flat, so when you are using heaiver lens you camera will tilt front a bit when you release the camera. (with 70-200 f4), so I tried my best to use with tripod ring as much as possible.
