Then check your composition skills. Sure, there are photographers you advice to take pictures always a bit wider and crop when necessary. But this would only be a few % around the rim. If you need to crop off 50% or more on most of your pictures then something's wrong with your composition or you use the wrong lens for that purpose.

In landscape photography, you can use your own sweet time to do composition.

In sports/action photography, things are beyond your control.
The every subject are moving fast.
Every time you press the shutter, multiple photos are taken.
Some of them may contains elements that you don't want.
Cropping is necessary.

a PnS was never designed to do sports photography in the first place IMO

I do a lot of cropping. hence my desire for a higher MP count :) Thanks for the recommendations and suggestions, all!

Even with a 6Mp image, you still have lots of room to crop. In the first place, learn how to compose properly and you'll remove the issue of cropping. :)
