;p
Poor student like me can barely afford to keep up film photography, hard to shoot anything more than 3 rolls a week, be it 35mm or 120 :bsmilie:

25 rolls is really alot, what do you guys shoot? :sweatsm:

Hi guys,

From my recent experience, it is not true that things are more expensive in BKK.
I bought my Canon 70-200 F/4 IS USM at Foto File in MBK for THB39,000.

Here's the calculation, exchange rate based on 1SGD= 22THB
THB39,000 -7% VAT for tourist = THB36,270 = SGD1,648. <-- Est. Final Price
I believe the current going price in Singapore is between SGD1,800-SGD1,900 for this lens?

For the rest of the Q&A & Points to Note;

- Comes with 12 months Canon International warranty (Green Warranty Card).
- Check that the Serial No. on the lens matches the Serial No. on the warranty card.
- SOP lens check.
- Make sure it's Made in Japan, not Made in Thailand. ;p

For the VAT Refund Procedure;

- Get VAT Refund form from Foto File
- Reach Airport, go to customs office to let the customs officer "check the goods" (she didn't bother to check...) and get customs chop on the VAT Refund Form.

DO TAKE NOTE:
- This customs office in the main airport hall, BEFORE going into the controlled area to chop your passport by the immigration officer.
- Ensure that the customs office chopped the VAT Refund Form.

- Proceed to get your passport chopped by the immigration officer then go into the controlled area (where all the boarding gates are).
- Locate the VAT Refund counter (there's 2, one on each wing of the airport).
- They will refund you in THB.
- Proceed to have your final Thai Massage before boarding.

Hope this helps and here's some photos from LOS with my new 70-200 Lens.

Cheers!
Dan

I got this info from a Thai on a 2nd hand shop in Thailand... no time to check it out...

Can Isara Tower
Rama 4 Road
Camera Collection Shop

It is at Si Lom MRT station, around Sala Daeng road.

I just came back from bangkok few days back, purchased a Lowepro Mini Trekker AW at $110 (after tax refund) compared to Singapore price of min $135. also got myself a hoya 67mm UV filter for S$21 all from MBK. i was quoted about S$1560 (after tax refund) for the D90 which is about S$100 cheaper then singapore. I also check out nikkor zoom 70-300 and they are selling at about S$100 cheaper also .
