Bally Photo

2. Give you really good price, then tell you the lens you are looking for is not in stock, then start recommending other lens/package to you, often at a "Special discount" price. Pretty much like how sls operates.
This is known as the "pheng gii"翻机 tactic.

Ah...bally photo...sometimes they do sell lens at cheaper price, but be careful of the two techniques they use...

1. Sell expensive filter/battery/other acc.
2. Give you really good price, then tell you the lens you are looking for is not in stock, then start recommending other lens/package to you, often at a "Special discount" price. Pretty much like how sls operates.

Yes...it is very ture... I brought my Sony A77 at the shop at a very very good price... and tot that they are honest people when they offer to sell me the 3-in-1 Marco lens/filter ($600+) and battery... I ended out buying the compatible battery at $95 which they said more power and cheaper than original one (> $100+ but they don have stock)... later, I found out from other shops that the same battery only selling at $35!!!

The compatible battery can only charge up to 50% from the original Sony charger which I need to later buy another third-party charger $$$...

Yesterday my friends were shopping at Funan and bought some gear from Bally photo on the 5th floor. The friends are a couple with two small kids and they are not pros in photography. They were cheated for more than 350 buck in total. First, they wanted to buy a zoom lens for Canon and got 75-300 for 500 bucks. After that, they realized that this is not a fair price and returned to the shop. The salesman refused to return the money but offered them to choose something else for these money. So, they did a mistake here and followed him deciding to choose another lens and went for Canon 70-200 f/4. Finally, the salesman refused to give them the box from the lens and convinced them to buy a hood (70 S$) and a filter (S$ 220!). The hood was supposed to come with the lens (and it DID come) and the filter was usual normal UV Hoya one which is around 20-30 S$ which was advertised as some "super-cool filter', etc. The receipt did not have the exact prices of the items (ya, they are fools not to check it but as I mentioned they are a couple with two small kids which are hard to manage).

Today they submitted a complaint to CASE and went back to the Bally photo to claim their money back. First, salesman refused to do anything of course and saying he is not afraid of police as he is Singaporean. After the husband told they submitted a file to CASE and will go to Funan management and police, these guys became afraid and returned them 340 bucks asking to remove a complaint.

Yes, they did return the money but I'm pretty much sure these people will continue cheating. So beware of this shop! And tell your friends not to buy from there!

Haha had a bad experience with them also. I was accompanying my friend to get is frist DSLR. They offered us a very competitive price for the Nikon D3200 ($790) after tax with a free bag and 8gb class 10 mem card.

So we went to withdraw the money but when we went back, the guy told us 790 was before tax and we have to buy a bag and memory card separately due to his "company policy". He also tried to sell us a $98 (before tax) sandisk 16gb class 10 mem card and told us that we "needed" to buy a filter to protect the lens. Luckily I know my stuff and walked out immediately.

Haha just trying my luck mah

$220 for a normal camera filter.

These scumbag salesman are committing daylight robbery and lying through their teeth ! ! !

I wouldn't step into their shop or go near it. It STINKS as far as I am concerned.

So lesson is do your HW before going :)

Yeah, the main lesson here is to do the homework, before purchasing the item.

The other lesson that most people forget... is to compare an items apple to apple, that is... if you buy a tripod for an certain amount of money, then go and look at the same brand, same type of tripod before making any comparism... and not go and look at something that is way out (like a cheap imitation) then say you got rip off (not pointing fingers at anyone here, so don't flame me).
