Not all the time, but they have done it for me quite a few times. Most recently, they gave me the best price for my 550D when I asked for an equote.

Cathay is competitive only if you ask for equote. The last time I asked for equote, they matched SLR Rev's price and threw in a couple more freebies.
... and their service is excellent. I remember the time I bought a S90 for my wife. I didn't bother to check, because I told the guy there that I trust their 7 day 1-for-1 policy. Then he offered to check it for me... and found a dust speck under the LCD. So, he promptly went to the back and got me a new set. :thumbsup:

They will refuse to lower the price if they are the distributor for the product... like Manfrotto. They explained to me that they have to protect the other retail shops that sell on their behalf and so they cannot undercut them. Cathay is a very high integrity outfit.

Erm 10 cent is fine, chopping people for a few hundred dollars is just wrong. I'm sure overcharging an item buy a few hundred dollars IS considered expensive.
And if ask price must buy then everyone who walk into a car showroom must walk away with a car?

Let me try to put it to you in your lingo...
everyone buy things is like market that .. compare until 10cents less they happy, 10dollar less they happier, 100dollar less is even happier through that.and i think that open a shop is to earn money honestly and what makes the shop ah beng sell so expensive but tell people cheap is that the heart is bad and people buy already pay 100dollar more so very not happy. Any product different prices maybe get less stock or even other reason as long as don't over listed is right .. but ah beng heart bad and over listed because he is a chop chop chopper and not happy until he chop.

Dont worry bro strikeback4 with your experience. I dont like the vibes coming from Cathay at peninsula, especially since one whole row of uncle behind the counter to intimidate you. I dont see any wrong with asking the price and considering about it.
The Cathay at Marina still not so bad, but they are not in the least helpful. Will only approach or ask those people they think they can get them to buy on the spot, not to try try look see look see.
TK and MS color are the 2 places that i've shopped at and i recommend either of these 2 for their service.

Well, I agree on this statement. I don't find it professional to have an uncle screwing another salesperson, while I (as a customer) request that sales person to bring down the demo set for my testing set. I find it absolutely disrespectful.
Intimidating wise, seriously, as a customer, if you don't feel comfortable, shop elsewhere you feel comfortable with
Personally I find John 3:16 quite a comfortable place although their price wasn't one of the lowest...
please read the disclaimers in the price guide - just becos the name of the shop is on the list, doesn't mean CS supports them. :nono:
just to be clear - CS is not beholden to any shops.
