Bali Reverie - A Pentax K1 real World review

I think Pentax has been watching you Singapore bros...they gave you a digital PC function. That's incredible. Shifting sensor is cool.

Its actually been there since the K7 (some 6 years ago). :D

Just one of the things that makes Pentax a very photographer orientated camera.
Features that really count in real world usage.

So many features too that I've not explored all of them to its best.

I read something about using the sensor shift for macro I think. Capability.

You might be referring to using pixel shift for macro.

JK, a really awesome, well researched review; comparable to the best professionals' work.
I'd been reading many a K1 reviews from the usual internet photography publications since this Pentax FF flagship was announced but found a home-grown photography enthusiast's best of all.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Perhaps its the right time to give a bit of an update to this review with the release of Raw Therapee v5 that gives far more control/support of the Pixel Shift function that any other software I know of to date.
It basically makes the processing of the pixel shifted file seamless and just like processing any other normal RAW file.

Flickr compresses things even at full size so here is a full sized one on Google Drive instead :
Important! : 100% via this Google Drive view is going all the way in via the " + " and then backing out with " " - " by one.

Here is a link an on-going thread to showcase many samples at full size to show what this feature is capable of.

Automatic Exposure time above 30s (up to 20mins)

Another feature that I've wanted for a long time (ever since using a DSLR in fact), but was usually not available on any DSLR is an automatic exposure above 30s.

Imagine the typical scenario taking sunrise/set, the need for an exposure time above the 30s exposure time of a camera is rather common.

Shutter speeds longer than 30s are also very common once I use the 6-10stop ND filters.
The usual way would be to set the camera to 'B' mode, trigger the shutter with the IR remote and wait at the camera until the time is up, at the same time, diligently monitoring the time on the stopwatch.

So its really welcome that the K1 comes with a Bulb mode that can be configured to be used in the old way (button release/stop ) or a self timer that allows up to 20 Minutes of exposure time.
Just trip the shutter, do your other stuff, and come back later to check on the pict.

The pict above illustrates the point.
It was a Sunrise over the kelong I was staying on during a cycling trip.
I set the timer to 90s exposure time, and moved away from the camera to grab a nearby cup of coffee, before getting back to the check of the shot.
