Bali Photography Tour 9-13 Sep '10

This is a shot that I told myself I won't sleep tonight until I post it up.
I simply shows how interesting the waves at Kusamba were.
Like what Adrian, SK1968, JJ, and the Scotsman have experienced.

Nice capture ! This is certainly worth losing sleep waiting for it !
I really admire the people, their determination and tenacity. Despite the lack of a proper jetty, the obvious difficulty and risk, the people (men, women, elderly and children) were all so determined to get in the boats (this and the others we saw) to get across the water either to go home or for prayer.

Day 2: Gerta Gosa

Gerta Gosa is actually not a temple.
It is an institute of the Court of the Ruling Royalty at the time.
There is a very fascinating museum within the compound of this court, and within it are showcased artifacts, paintings, and documents of that era.
Chairs of judges and solicitors where they pronounced sentences where on display.
And paintings of puputan kungklung were on display.

The story of Puputan Kungklung
History was that in 1908, the last ruling King of Bali, his concubines, the royal offsprings and his Court Royalties marches and stood at the grounds of Kungklung,
in full anticipation of defeat as the Dutch with much superior weaponry stormed the beach.
Not willing to allow the attack Dutch soldiers to take any prisoners, all of these fought bravely and died courageously.
The Balinese womanfolks slit their own throats, and stabbed themselves after doing the same on their children.
Thus the name Puputan Kungklung - "To the last drop of blood".

On this literally quiet and serene morning when we were there, the Gerta Gosa was totally all to ourselves.
And we were free to roam anywhere.
Colin the S, Adrian the SgTrekker and I myself we were fortunate for as we were quietly shooting the Candi Bentar inside the sanctum,
a lovely young Balinese girl walked gracefully in, decked in her fine white lacy Balinese kerbaya and holding a big plate of offerings topped with a stick of incense.
Unable to believe our luck, we quickly whispered among ourselves to keep our eyes on this subject.
And she was good - smilingly she allowed us to photograph her..!

A natural subject she was. Graceful and quiet in her prayer and movements.
After being inspired by the colours of my fellow Nikon users, I have decided to render these following few pictures more Nikon-llike... hahaha...

While Colin and Adrian were intently shooting, I stepped back and took a shot wide.
In this picture, I reverted back to my usual colour style - deeply saturated, Canonised colours...haha!
[disclaimer: not meaning to start a brand war... just that our good Adrian has been a recent Nikon convert from Canon... so I must chok-chok him a little]

What were they trying to do?

To simply cross over the other side, fishing or what? This that normally how they get onto the boat?

I saw all men but one woman.

We all ready to leave already. Then, I don't remember who, but must be Colin lah. He asked our guide Agung to walk to the Candi Bentar to be the model for us to shoot. When they all were shooting I shoot this offerings placed on the side.

We all so hot and thirsty. Outside Gerta Gosa, we all walked into a kopi tiam and Adrian bought all of us a round of coffee and cold drinks. Limwhow and I we had cold F&N Kopi Soda - wah so nice and fizzy! Never tasted before in Singapore!
Thank you, Adrian for the drinks!
A lady walking outside with her head on top full of sarong.

Day 2: From Gerta Gosa to Bukut Jambul, the Flower Terrace

There are so many more photos from everyone on the trek to post onto this thread.
And I am excitedly waiting for more from SK1968, Adrian, Colin (where are you?), ESP (where are you, ESP? Quick come leh.) and of course, our lovely JJ (JJ, you must be busy. All waiting for you!).

But as the day become hotter, it becomes almost unbearable that we just gently move this humble travelogue a little bit forward.
But still, ladies and gentlemen - just post all your good shots, regardless of when and where and what time they were taken.
The travelogue is not important. It just moves by itself.

Here, we moved from Gerta Gosa to our next destination - the Bukut Jambul - the Flower Terrace.

Here I just shoot with the red leaves big big in the foreground. I like everything big big. That is why I like wide angles. Keke..

I like this "Total Devotion".
SK1968, thank you very much!

I saw all men but one woman.

Divinemoment, the men at the side and at the back are pushing the boat further out to sea while the coxswain is getting ready to start the motor.
These lovely people are going to cross to the big island opposite for prayers.
There are more womanfolks and children and they are all taking another bigger but even more tightly and overly-loaded one.

This is no fault of yours limwhow....it is Adrian's...hahaha
The first version of their itinerary had it as 'Bukut'...and I named my shots as such...but later saw the final version (after the trip, with the participants' contacts) had it as 'Bukit'. Googled, it is 'Bukit'. :)
