Errr, Adiemus, the threadstarter has not declared that yet... ;p

I think it might be the "workshop".

Hi, just to expressed my disappointment with one of the "leading" used camera shop at Peninsula shopping Centre.

It was just a normal shrewd business ethic. I left my Leica lens on consignment more than 1 years ago and when everytime I called to checked on the status of sale, I was told that it was very very difficult to sell the lens and so I thought it was true and kept it at their place.

Than, later one fine day I came to the shop to check if the lens was still available. Instead of telling me that, the lens was "sold" they try to psycho me for a trade in with their "high price digicam. I was a bit hasitant and left the shop with a promise to get back to them for the trade in.

The following day I decided to take back my lens...... and you know what happened... Lots of crab stories... and finally they admitted that they have sold the lens one year ago and told me that, nobody was aware of the sale.... I was rather furious and very angry towards the attitude of the shop espacially the lady in-charge as the owner was out of the Singapore..(am not sure if it was true)..

Anyway, my advice to potential consignor, please be very carefull when dealing or placing consignment items at any shop, irrespective if they are reputable or not as when money matters come to be an issue...would be much better to deal with a devil....

The above is just part of the storey as I would like to elaborate further....

Cheers..
Let me just add my opinion. You obviously had a bad experience with a particular shop and that's why you put it up here to let everyone know of your bad experience. So I think it is fine to list the shop that you have the bad experience with.

This will help the other readers of the forum make up their mind whether to deal with the shop or not. By not naming the shop you risk tarring the reputation of the other shops when other readers assume that another shop is the you you dealt with (not suggesting that they are angels either - but you obvisouly don't have a bad experience with them in this instance).

My 1 cent worth.

I feel we should all treat the thread starter's post as a general warning to be more careful when dealing with 2nd hand shops. Its helpful to know what stunts they pull... that way we know what to look out for.

In this case, the lesson learnt is that we should occasionally drop by at the shop to physically check that the lens is unsold as they claim, and not rely on phone calls. I'm sure he's not alone... many others would just call maybe once a month to check instead of going down.

Whether or not he wishes to reveal the shop's name his is decision. He is ultimately responsible for what he says, and he has a right to decide what he wants/does not what to say. We should not pressure him into such things.

as long as his story is genuine, there is no reason not to name the shop. to be fair to the shop, he can tell or email them the link to this thread and they can put up their own explanation if they wish.
