AP-F: Its 18......erm 195$.
Me: Has the price increased? Its mentioned in clubsnap that you were selling it for 175 earlier
AP-F: YOU GO AND BUY FROM CLUBSNAP!!!! *Hung up*

Call them again and tell them that I will rather buy from other shops even if they are selling more than $200. lolx

Spite them back. That is no way to treat a potential customer.

well there is nothing good about them to begin with :bsmilie:

 lots of bad experiences with this shop that others have mentioned. not so surprising anymore

boycott them, received a double quotation from them on the same day!

dodgy shop...

now, i go ebay and look for hk online stores... cheaper, better! shipping all in, still cheaper than the shops here, for the items i want.

why not?

i rather get no service from online stores than bad services from brick and mortar stores!

For canon user, can buy from US wor... USD now quite weak le. lolx

Precisely! We should boycott them!
How about putting them in the black list? Considering others have had similar experience...
Just a thought

Actually true. CS IMO has fairly much affect business with their mass purchase and B&S. While B&S increases recycling, it does lowers shop sales intake. Some buyers are just attracting for hang up bec you are asking at a tiny discount when you vehicle petrol cost more.

In fact I never recommend my colleagues and friends to ever mention clubsnap as it may attract displeasure from sellers. Can't blame them, because there are complaints that were not verified, thus introducing poor perception to buyers.

And thanks for your tip on ebay bro..any recommended stores?

Sorry bro, some clarification required here...I never asked for a discount...just asked why are they selling at a higher price than they were selling in Jan (very politely)
He might have a perfectly good explanation...and even if he did not, he could have disagreed to sell it at Jan price (politely)...perfectly acceptable
The least you can expect is a little courtesy while talking to a potential buyer...price and dicsount and clubsnap comes later

FYI, there was a price update (upwards around that time)... and frankly, the price guide just stated that it's a guide... by no means you could use it as a chip to bargain... under normal circumstances, you could drop some names trying to get discounts... but whether they wanna give or not is still up to them...

but if someone hung up on me like that, i'll make sure they get calls from me everyday... ;p

Similar experience in the past~
I rather get used/grey then to patronise their shops.. Their reputation is down the drain..:thumbsd:

Got bad exprerience with them as well when last Friday I asked for 200 f2.8L. He asked me arrogantly if I can see that lens on the stack of lens. He could have just said that they don't have stock.

Hi there, based on your conversation, there is no way the AP guy know that you were referring to their Jan price, you only say "earlier" but never mention exactly when is earlier...

Maybe it could be better if you asked "why is it more ex then their Jan price"...

Since CS is not the official website/forum for the shop and the prices here are only for indications, AP has no obligations to follow/match the prices here (might do better for their business if they do, but still...)

I kinda understand the shop's frustration, but still, rude behavior is not good for business..

The sales staff there simply have the "bo-chup" attitude when it comes to purchasing things from them.

They really lack the enthusiasm to earn money from their customers if you ask me. :nono:

I mean, if they're not interested to do business with you, then boycott them.

I did. :bsmilie::bsmilie:

It is important for new fellow CSer to realized that price guide in CS is just a guide, and it is updated by the help of contibutor, using the info provided by other CSer.

I am a little skeptical about the conversation that took place between the TS and AP but I will still give benefit of doubt. AP has been around for many years, so I don't think they are silly enough to answer their customers that way.

Sorry if this may offend anyone and I may be wrong, but I feel that if I want people to respect me, I should first give them respect. If AP decided to raise price and is more expensive, note it down and update the moderator for the Price Guide. I will not drag CS into it and make CSers look like a bunch of cheapos.

P.S I don't work for AP or any shops.

So what is the current market price for this lens? Is $195 a reasonable quote?

hi there, to the person that ask me on internet sales for the camera items

when buying online, please do follow the guides that i stick to

1. the retailer accepts paypal payment, i only pay by paypal payments.

i paid via mastercard once, outside of paypal payments, where i was conned.

payment by paypal means that the store is a proper business which takes on paypal controls, as paypal would clamp on the retailer if they are fraudent. thus, unless the retailer is in it for a one time deal only... otherwise... don't worry

2. the retailer has over 100 transactions.

maybe he / she has 100 friends? then, make it 1000 transactions.

i am assured if the retailer has over 1000 transactions on ebay with >95% positive feedbacks.

looking for 100% is kinda idealistic, as sometimes misunderstandings happen.

3. make sure they include shipping charges.

as a rule of thumb, i choose buy it now options and not screw around with bidding. but i send them an email to let them tell me the final price with shipping inclusive.

4. value of product : *** IMPORTANT

declare as SG$400, more than that, u would be taxxed with GST.

and write the description as gift. (not you, tell them to write it as gift)

ok?

hope it's clear.

generally, i buy alot of things from internet, i don't really go to local shops, as

1. they don't know what they are selling
2. they don't know the pros and cons of the items to educate me on a better choice
(ok, this pt is same as pt 1)
3. they attend the global school of mormons when they sleep at night, (very persistant in trying to get u to agree and in this case, buy the item u enquire on)
4. a small percentage of them are rude (this occurs at the ah-beng, ah-lian stores. BUT i am glad that john 3:16, is not one of them, i am not christian nor catholic btw)
5. most importantly, they are not photographers, so they are not passion-driven...

do i pay more?

unfortunately yes.

i pay more when i shop at places where the sales people are users and we communicate our different areas of interest for the subject.

the singapore market is small, bringing in the niche items brings an element of risk.

for such shops, i have tipped them (>$100) as a sign of support to keep them going.

why do i take on the jack-ass approach for the local camera stores then?

because their approach has not evolved to be user-centered, where they pretend to be mildly interested in the products they sell.

is it a tough request on my end to demand that they be users?

to earn my money, it helps if they are, so that they would be more credible.

i went to courts (the furniture store, not the legistrative one) to buy a 42 inch TV recently.

the 40ish old (ex-contractor) male sales person pitched me, buy a TV that is appropriate for the size of your living room.

sound advice, i carried on listening to him,

though i sit less than 1 metre from my existing 42 inch.

next, he said, if u sit too close and look at the TV screen, it overwhelms u and u will feel giddy...

ok, this is when unfortunately, i am a rational kid... what nonsense is he talking about?

i sit less than 1 metre from the TV for as long as i can recall ( i got near 6/6 eyesight btw, thanks for caring. to the uninformed, it means i got almost perfect vision)

i don't remember feeling giddy all these time that i sit about 1m away from the TV, and it's not unique...

i am not part of the "heroes" in the american drama serial....

my whole family sit that near too...

hmm, now now... maybe, my whole family and i are heroes...

nhmm, jokes aside.

you see, my point is this, when i am a consumer, i am very particular about the sensibility of the sales pitch i received from the salesperson,

be it a tv salesmen, a camera salesmen or a (irritating) religion evangelist

so if the talk don't make sense, thanks for insulting my intelligence, the salesperson would be excused from my attention.

I am agree with this.
Again, important for fellow new CSer to know, according to a few past threads / posts, sometimes, even 2 person check the price in same day in same shops, price may still slightly vary, since sometimes shops give slightly better price for old customer that they know them. This means, a price in price guide provided by A might not same if B go to ask again.
