Bad experience at The Camera Workshop

well... i am not sure either if Sigma 18-250mm is not a popular lens? or worse still, it is an obselete item!!! But i'm thankful that Alex is kind enough to take it in for me and before that the shop next to Alex is willing to take it also. It is not a bad lens, it focuses better and faster than tamron 18-270mm, its just that we, me and my partner can't share the lens. Doing business is just like dat, honesty is very important, photography is a lifelong hobby, if do business, dun just do one time. if you scratch my back, i'll scratch yours? as simple? If anyone asks for recommendations, i'll say Alex Yeo, not Nelson. And besides dat, from the thread, i've also known of Nelson as badly reputated! 2 yrs ago, when i first went to buy lens, i recognised nelson as Uncle Lim’s colleague who used to work in the camera shop opposite cathay photo. i bought from uncle lim 20 yrs ago, so i ask hows uncle lim, but nelson says uncle lim retired already! but one of those days, i found uncle lim working in cathay photo. i was quite disgusted with nelson for this as well, liar!!!!!!!

Know what you wanna buy, walk in, ask for quotation, if price buay gum, just walk out.
Save your breath and avoid any arguement that spoilt your mood.

I enocuntered a situation where i was heading somewhere far to buy my stuffs, on the way saw a shop selling similiar stuffs, ask for pricing and the salesman quoted me the price and said its the cheapest in SG. I was so boiled up and told him i can get it cheaper. He snapped back and said why i dun buy from the other place then instead of coming to their shop. I kept my cool and just walk out. I could use the extra charges take cab to & fro and even have a buffet lunch, still got left money.

Bottomline is make your money well spent

If you can, try to find a pro who have friends who work in these shops la, then when they recommend friend friend, you'll know it will definitely be ain't that bad. haha.

I always buy from a friend's friend (a pro recommend me) who works at Alan Photo who is now my friend lol. Not bad the price for the most important stuff.

Why need to find "friend's friend" when there are honest shops that gives good service around? Save the effort of finding a friend's friend and go to other shops.

A lot of bad shops out there, even if it's recommended by some on CS, business deals are actually very personal and opinions differ given time, space and item involved.

I might be kaypoh and others might have said this, but some advise for those who are starting this hobby/profession, put in some effort and deal with a salesman that gets along with you, don't be afraid to say no and most importantly is to have an attitude of give and take.

Competitive pricing is one issue, customer service is another.

I wonder what happened. Some time back their service was friendly and the prices were rather competitive.

Almost got scammed by them into buying a 500D IR trigger when I was looking for a wired cable release for my 50D. Nelson repeatedly insisted that it was a wired set and would work with my camera. Quoted $52 for the trigger, which I found to be a ridiculous price. Opened up to check and realised that what he had said before was untrue. Left the shop and eventually got it from Orient Photo for $14.

Same here. Nearly kana chop deep deep by them few months ago. Quoted me Meiki Ring flash for $150 Really kill people put fire!!!

It's 'I have', not 'I'm..' But like I told spree86 on pm, no matter what or who you buy from, still have to do homework and research before u shop even if it's your friend lol. Though lesser risk la.
