part timers...this reminds me of an incident 2 years back at some tech show.

was looking at some cameras with my friend when another customer looking at a point and shoot. then she ask the salesperson what is ISO pointing at the ISO button. salesperson replied: Image Stabalizer Optimiser.'

we nearly burst into laughter!:sweat::bsmilie:

You know.....interestingly enough, if you think about it...ISO adjustment functionally does "optimise" the image stabiliser.....:bsmilie:

I think the sales person sell too much Canon & Panasonic's camera... coz both company uses the IS term( MOIS or IS )... :bsmilie:

It's the same for other product booths as well, not just cameras.

Dun expect the temp sales staff to be able to assist you in product information. Do all your research beforehand.

But, although i dun expect 100% attention from them, neither do i expect <10% attention.
How are they employed in the first place? Dun the rep company have a certain standard expected of their staff. Or do they just employ and tom-dick-harry student and let them do whatever they want... Thought they are expected to do whatever they can to get a sale, instead of giving reasons for potential customers to be discouraged to make the purchase, due to bad customer service.

The guy who served me at the olympus booth was quite good. Got my 850 from there... but the queue is sooooo long! After queuing to pay still need to queue for the camera.... not worth the time.

was tempted to buy the 870IS canon but got put off by super long queue. in the end din buy!

This exhibition are for bargains - you must know what you want already and simply transact.
If you want to try out - the best time it during kopi session, or outings and fellow photographers lend each other. Just bring your CF card.

OMG..i just finished my o levels and was searching for part time..

and i was actualy intrested in working part time at this fair..either for olympus or apple..

damn..well seeing all these, come to think of it comex is much better..prices here are quite steep..

and i did remember seeing training included when appling for the part time salesman jobby !!

my god seems like the training went down the drain !!

I remember there is a sales lady in canon that keep saying that what the camera can do & what other brands cannot do.... When I corrected her, she still insist that she is correct and even ask her "supervisor" to talk to me.

When the "supervisor" say that she is correct, I pull out my camera to prove them wrong... :bsmilie:

LOL :bsmilie:
But on second thought. It is not completely wrong because when ISO increase, the shutter speed with also increase and result in less camera shake. Fuji used to market their compact camera high ISO feature as "image stabalizer"
This maketing thingy caused confusion to layman

LOL! But what ever it is isnt the job partly commission based? The more you sell the more money you get.

I wanted to work at sitex at nikon booth but my prom fell on the first day, how timely!!

Anson, your intention wasnt to buy the camera hor?:P

then you answer "oh darling...this ISO button means It's Sex Override..." :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

went to sitex today....didn't see any interesting "big banner discounts" being offer at the Olympus booth...didn't even bother to go in to check out....

just walk in....walk out....

Naughty reply warning... :nono:

Later gf slap him then you know...

This says so much about sales people... hard to find someone that you can trust... they only want your money...

My intention that day was to accompany my friend to purchase her camera there (which she eventually got a Nikon)...

Personally I felt that canon make good PnS (Ixus series), but what turn me off was the attitude of the sales lady. I remember when some of the camera feature can't match other brands.... she just say " the camera is not good enough for you, better find another brand instead". :nono:

To me every camera brands have its pros & cons, and I respect the sales person when she admit to it then to cover up for faults.... :sticktong

I agree with you... I understand that they are paid mainly by commission based, and it can be a stressful environment for them there.

Summary of our conversation

My Friend : Can use zoom when recording a video?
Canon Salesgal : Yes, of course!
Me : You can only use only using digital zoom during video recording....:what:
Canon Salesgal : All camera uses digital zoom when recording video, no camera uses optical zoom in video. :nono:
Me : Some Panasonic camera use optical zoom when taking video :)
Canon Salesgal : Impossible, you are wrong.... no camera use optical zoom only digtal zoom (then turn to her supervisor to confirm with her)

Frankly speaking to me... "if you don't know, say you don't know and don't act that you know". :sweatsm:

i dont expect all salesperson to know every detail. just that the way he said it so confidently really caught e 2 of us by surprise and gotta to turn away to laugh.

Guy I know we are the customer. And this sales ppl must do their job well.

But in such show they speak to few hundred people a day. Is really tiring to treat all customer with love and care! Plus they can only spend 10 to 15 minute per customer. Really can't give everyone the love and care when u visit them at the booth!

Not to forget they report work damn early and last to go. They need to hoot for sales for and store energy for 4 days.

I'm sorry.... is this the kind of attitude that a sales should have ? I beg to differ this "caring" thoughts for others. If one feels the correct attitude to treat a customer can be slacken just because you are feeling tired, I'm sad to say it's utterly unprofessional. The system is very simple, no one force you to be a sales, if the correct attitude to treat a customer cannot be achieve, it's just right to be criticized, just as much as works here cannot achieve the expectation of the others and therefore will be commented. If the job requires them to speak to 10 customers per min, and they know it's how the thing works and still they wanna stick to the job, it's only right of good attitude to be served. I wouldn't even wanna quote how japanese have good service, may it be just a outer and fake appearance, but job is a job. So should we just say "Singaporeans are just not up to standard compared to the Japanese ? Ain't we the kiasu group that strived to be the best ?" :) No worries... I'm a 101% singaporean when I criticize.

Simple words :) "Lets be professional about this" :)

so what is ISO? every clubsnappers know?

let say 1 day your PnS hp camera gf ask you, Dear... this ISO knob, what is that?
How do you answer?

n ppl know that computer exhibition is not a place for product knowledge.

I think ISO is just the standard (International Organisation for Standards) means, the numbers are standards for measuring sensor sensitivity to light

Guys correct me if I am wrong

BUT "Image Stabliser ON!!!!" LMAO!!!

ISO - International Stardards Organisation
ISO in photography refers to International Standard ISO 5800:1987 from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) defines both an arithmetic scale and a logarithmic scale for measuring color-negative film speed. Related standards ISO 6:1993 and ISO 2240:2003 define scales for speeds of black-and-white negative film and color reversal film.

ASA - Rating for film speed by America Standard Association.

Read more about this on Wikipedia.

I am not sure if you guys were kidding when you asked, but nevertheless, hope the Wiki sheds some light on ISO/ASA (the latter is less used today than in the days of film).

Cheers all, happy week to y'all ahead.

BTW, Sitex is already over and we should kind of cool down over the atrocities we have encountered over the event. Those who are attending future tradeshows to make purchasing decisions are better informed and maybe this forums serve as a better platform to make up your mind on purchases rather than depending on sales people on the ground. But in any case, I personally discourage such threads so let's not continue to bitch further.

Till the next Sitex... peace to all.

Cheers.
