Please don't take this the wrong way, and I am certainly not trying to destroy your chances of finding people, but I find this particular condition to be very strange. I could understand if you are denying payment until completion of the first job, and determining payment amount after completion of the first job so you can gauge the duration and quality of the work, but there doesn't seem to be any reason beyond getting a free session out of the photographer. After all you are not taking people on blind, as you are looking at their work first.

On the brighter side of things... at least he's not asking to be paid for the first assignment... heehee.

hmmm....actually if its juz working as backup and following a PRO ard....i dun see the issue la....so long as u learn something from it and hav fun at the end of the day...tt's wats important..

well...if i were asked to cover the first event alone...then i probably wont do it..

In addition to what the others have said...

Perhaps, to convince the community here, I believe it would be much appreciated to showcase some of the works the company has done thus far... be it for events, studio shoots or what not. Moreover, I believe it is also appropriate that the name and contact number be given for the point of contact in the company so that interested parties in the CS community can contact him/ her for further details without relying entirely on the PM system available in CS.

Anywayz, these are just my thoughts. And I guess we are appreciative of the avenues of learning that you may have brought to the community here :)

This is not a place to look for free photographers!

You have already asked for works to be seen, and the photographers will be engaged based on their works. This means that their professionalism will be recognised before you decided to employ them for photo projects/shoots.

Why is then this first project free thingy? I don't understand.

I might be mistaken.. or does he meant the first project is free, no commission drawn from you to the company as your 'employer'? :dunno:

i don't ever recall having a FREE try-out for any 'professional photography / videography' firm before. if the photographer/videographer is sincere enough to take out time for the trial, he/she should at least be paid basic transport/meal allowance.

good luck, and all the best to those who is going for it. if you are starting out in photography, word of advice is to be cynical and wary of such offers. there are risks which one shouldn't take or condone.

perhaps we should wait for a reply first...

normally backups got learning exp should be good enuff....but like stereobox said....there should be a basic hmmmmm......
its personal la...if got PRO shooting...shoot as backup for first time gain exp build up portfolio also good.....

the title and text dun tally basically...look for backup....buten need link....

completely lost here...haha...wait and see....

IMHO, even backups get paid to a certain extent, like meal and transport allowances, for the appreciation of their hard work.

Some more this is a commercial agency right? Need clarification here though.

My heart felt a tingle of disappointment when I realised it was another attempt for "free" services. Sigh...imagine all my prospective clients wants me to "shoot" for free before deciding whether will they engage me for next assignment....

paladin & virgo - unfortunately, this is an on-going problem within CS, as i've observed. as with the case which i bookmarked here, there are people out there who wants CSers to provide something for nothing.

dat said, witness has a point. hope our production company poster will clarify their company's stand?

That food part I agree... My first wedding photoshoot next week, I have the couple reserving me a seat and extra food for me... :)

Should at least give some money for food and transport...

What's this though? Pay to shoot?

actually you can ask the couple to arrange to 'ta pao' takeaway most of the dishes for you, just ask them to arrange with the captain! ;) you may not eat much if you have the seat.

ask the couple to ask the captain to ta pao the couple share (2) and then pass to you lor., if they want to eat as well, ask the captain to tar pao 2x2 sets.

for your info dun try to share with the couple, either of these will happen

1) the groom is so drunk, you cannot just eat like that
2) friends who hang around and refused to leave, but you are dead beat how?
3) friends who are hungry as well, maken your share
4) couple actually share the meal with you, but its their special night, you suppose to 'disappear' once you are done shooting.
5)you got a hungry videographer and lights man as well, might as well get on their transport for supper.
