Back Auto-Focus Setting

Hi members,

I've just learnt thru Youtube, the use of back auto-focus button. It works on my 24mm, 17-35mm, 50mm and 85mm. But does not work on my 70-200 and 300mm lens. When I tried to reset back to original, that's using the shutter focus, both the long lenses won't work either.

Not sure if any of the members encountered such and offer some help. By the way, I'm using D300 and D4. Both got same issue.

Thanks and best regards

Have you checked the AF/MF switch on the lenses?

I've not touched the switch on the lenses. I've just made the setting from the camera.

Rather strange that only the long lenses not responding.

Probably something wrong with your 70-200 and 300...

Back button focus works all compatible autofocus lenses to my knowledge, it's just a way to activate the auto-focus function (works on all my Nikon AF-D/AF-S lenses including 70-200, third party ones (Sigma/Tamron/Tokina) and for manual focus lenses it also activates the focus confirmation indicator)

I would think so. Since I've not touched on any of other function buttons on the lens.

Looks like I need bring to service centre for a check.

Thanks for all the kind assistance.

Tested my 300 f/3.5~5.6 with both D4 and D300 and it works.

However, when it comes to the 70-200mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/2.8, still not working on both cameras.

Heard from some that it could be "firmware" issue?

Not sure if any of the member knows of such a term?

Even my 15 year old AFS 300/2.8 non-VR and AFS 80-200 works with the back AF button, on D4, on D800e...
My suggestion is to bring your lenses and cameras in for a check.

Bro,

Many thanks.

Looks like that's the best option.
