b+w filters are so gawdamned ex, buying it is like a sadistic self-inflicted masochistic pleasure. damnit i luv it.

If and when you buy a lens, you have to factor in the filter cost. Ofcouse, if you areone of those purist that shun filters, this won't apply to you. However, most of us do get a UV filter, really more for protection then anything else.
That said, your lens is only as good as the worse piece of glass in the system. I absolutely have no idea how some people will spend $$$ to buy a lens, and willing to pay only $ for the filter. Isn't filter one piece of glass in the system of the lens?
Get the best filter you can afford, get the filter that won't overly degrade the performance of your lens.

72mm is not very common, (the most common ones is 77mm), I sometimes find the 72mm in Cathay shops in Peninsular or Marina Square.Where to buy B+W 72mm UV Haze filter? Call every shop, seem like they are out of stock
You might want to check out http://www.memoryonlineshop.com/. Their B+W filters are cheaper than what you get from the shops.

stronger = better.so clearer = better ? If we use carefully, then UV is just last layer of defence.

Yes, nikon is good, but B+W's build is a lot better.
B+W filters are much easier to clean and their coating is tough. Btw, have anyone noticed the prices for B+W lately? It seemed to went up. Last time i got the 77mm for $90 now the 77mm is $108. The difference is pretty big. The jack up in price seems to be same everywhere. Wonder what is wrong... :dunno:
