B+W filters: worth paying so much?

Is it worth it paying so much more for B+W filters over basic hoya ones?

Currently only using clear type of Nikon NC and Hoya HMC filters, more for protection against flying foreign objects or fluids (eeks) at events. I have never intend to spend too much on UV filters.

Izit you don't care about the dust go in on the front element? Or planing just use for while and resell?

Dust is everywhere. Even u got filter, dust will still go into lens

So what if front glass has dust?

so the reason why people prefer b+w over hoya is because b+w is easier to clean?? Not about the glass quality? so if i dont complain of cleaning filters, should i just get a jhoya if both filters give the same quality performance?

B+w filters quality is no better. Period.

It's just easier to clean. Look up on another thread that has the link where filters are tested.

Hoya takes the top spots.

that's why i use Hoya too :)

I am all for B+W filters....

I was using Hoya and Kenko before I started to use B+W. B+W is the easiest to clean among the three. It's very important IMO because when I'm shooting and happen to accidentally get finger prints or water droplets on the lens, I need to clean the lens quickly to continue shooting. It takes me one to two swipes of the Lenspen to clean the B+W. Kenko takes longer and Hoya's the worst. There was once I had to stand aside to clean for a good 5 minutes and ended up missing many shots.

Thus, I swear by B+W now.

Once u start using b+w u will not go back. Easy to clean and won't get stuck onto lens mount. Glass stays sturdy. Flare hardly happens. I think there's enough reasons for that premium price

Well, I quickly went back to Hoya when this happened to me.

buy new one la! old one never go. new one never come!

I'd rather break a cheap and equally reliable Hoya than break an expensive B+W.

Try breaking a B+W and let's see how easily you can pull your wallet out of your back pocket and purchase a new one.

I think if you do not take care of your equipment. even a d4 will be ruin by you. A filter's function doesn't include surviving drops.

As if I don't know that.

IMO B+W filter..are worth the price..If you cant justify the price..then look else where..no worries..

I use Carl Zeiss T* filter.. even more ex than B+W..but im happy. ;)

That's what I'm trying to say. It's painful to break something expensive so I'd rather break something cheap than cry over the extra cash I shelled out that I can't get back anymore. Thank you.

I think everyone as their reasons for getting b+w or Hoya or Kenko

If I have the money, I'll get the most expensive filter for my lenses too. But too bad I am not, so hoya is the choice for me.

If I can only afford a $120 canon ef50mm f1.8, then I'll most likely buy a kenko(buying an expensive b+w filter that cost 50% of my lens price doesn't make sense)

If I can afford the canon 50mm f1.4 at $500, then I'll go for Hoya
If I can afford the canon 50mm f1.2L at $2500, then what's a $100 b+w filter right?

Yea exactly.

(Btw my post is for people who are still looking or doubtful whether to buy a B+W filter or not..not directed to you. Hopefully no misunderstanding here. Cheers.)

Even if I can afford a 50mm f1.2 I'd still get a Hoya. Totally satisfied with it. And besides, I often take my filters off when I shoot. I just use 'em to protect my lenses from elements like mist from the sea, or fingerprints, etc.

Nope. None at all. You actually got my point.
