This is the same group that not too long ago had internal leadership problem involving Josie Lau that was quite a stir. they arenot immune to having internal problems and self interest and I am wondering they are using this to bolster their membership or starting to be seen as irrelevant in these day and age..or they are just running out of ideas to move AWARE forward.

Guys we are all reacting to this wrongly. Point NSmen should get better recognition for what they have done - we all agree right ? Point all citizens have a right to public housing, public healthcare etc - right ? Then why is the government trying to give more right to one class of citizens (ignore which group that is) over the rest ? Is this right if it is meant as a sign of recognition ? Would you give some else's share allocation to right away to another person, then you are not really giving any thing but taking aways from some one something to give to another i.e. you gave nothing ; some one was robbed by you so that you can "give" what was taken to another person to so call discharge a debt or honor some one. This is the crux of the issue. Aware see it as right taken away from the non NSmen to give to the NSmen; they are just not expressing it right. If the Government really wanted to "honor" us the NSmen, let see them pony with some real hard cash - no voucher, promises of enhance this or that.
Rather we, the citizen , should be upset with the creators of this kind of rob peter to pay paul scheme. If you want to give something give something from your own resources or something from your own pocket and not take from some one to give to another. If you want to be petty about this policy is like something colonial Britain does best, playing one fraction against another so that everyone need them (the British) to settle matters.

2 of my friends have slipped disc. Every now and then can see how they squirm in pain. The cause?
One was attached to Air Force as ordnance specialist hauling bombs and such for jet fighters. The other one was combat engineer, dragging and building those portable bridges. Do they deserve special care more than me a new citizen who got exempted, or some white horse who got desk job in aircond room all the way? Hell, they do!
Not to mention they have to regularly train for IPPT. It is fun when exercising for leisure, but different feeling when training to pass the test. Heard of ppl over exert themselves and drop dead during exercise? Normal citizen who are exempted from NS liabilities need to pia until lidat?
Have I mentioned that they have to report where they go overseas for holiday?
Yes, I am exempted, but if come to this I am on their side. At least I owe them my appreciation for their pain, inconveniences and sacrifice.
Granted there's only so many carrots on the plate. Let them have slightly more after slaving themselves for years with minimum monetary rewards for their effort. Although that still can't make up for their lost career times while non NS personnel are free to pursue and develop their career life during this ( or maybe even steal their girlfriends away).

No need to even talk about getting killed or injured or hardship during training, standby already sian, going overseas never inform then go DB already enough sh1t. Now even a little recognition is begrudged. Do they even know what is sign extra?
