Thanks for all the replies and advice to my queries. I will go ahead with the mod next week and experience the feel of the modded cam.

Have a good weekend!

Cheers!

below taken using 85 AF 1.4D with Hoya R72 ..autofocus !

no good example ..better than nothing la..

Coldcut-----Post more photos with the modified camera.

u2nofear---Is already consider sharp and autofocus is spot on.

Thickness of the IR filter is also a factor in causing focus problems. Ideally, the IR filter should be of the same thickness as the replaced/removed bandpass filter.

If obtaining an IR filter of the same thickness is not possible, then OOF images are almost certain to happen with auto and manual focus.

To compensate/calibrate the autofocus requires proprietary Nikon software.

To compensate/calibrate the manual focus requires changing the angle of the main mirror (which if I'm not wrong, not all SLRs can do).

Sometimes I modify DSLRs at work for IR.

Ok Guys,

I just got back with my D70s IR mod. It seems like there are no auto-focus issues as the camera has been calibrated. The following are sample pics taken with 18-70mm kit lens.

Well, I'm satisfied with the results and it's so much more convenient than using tripod. :D

use f1.8 la..:p

18-70 seems to work for mine... But once i switch to a 50mm F1.8 it doesn't work at all...

Hmmm...i think the 50mm f1.8 works fine for me. This photo of my cousin was taken using 50mm f1.8 last week.

I modded my cam at Camera Hospital, but I think they used Long Pass instead of R72. CH also calibrated my D70s after modding.
