Folks,

After my recent trip to Melaka, I realised Jonker street is like a large scale Arab st. Interesting historical buildings that blend both Portuguese and Nyonya culture together.

Lots of shootings and eating. We plan to organize a one-day trip there. Looking for volunteers car owners to help ferry those without vehicles. Planning to leave early Sat morning and return in the evening.

Date: 21 Aug 2010
Meeting point - To be decided. Any good carpark location that's easily accessible for those not driving?
Time: 8 am
Return: 8 pm?

We will share and collect petrol money to subsidize those driving. Hope you guys are ok with the arrangement. Please bring sufficient Ringgits for meals and shopping.

Why don't you grab a bus ticket from Golden Mile
its 2 weeks from now, and booking for a group of say 10+ shd not be too difficult.
Less tiring for the drivers and since its a group trip, the more fun!
Melacca isn't that far, so travelling wld not take long...

some suggestions re proposed melaka trip. i visited this place a couple of times during the last few months...
1) leaving singapore around 0800h would mean arriving into into melaka like 1100h or later (allowing time to clear both singapore and malaysia ICA). by this time, outdoor shooting would have to be ruled out due to harsh lighting and heat.
2) targetting to return by 2000h means having to depart from melaka not later than 1700h. this leaves little time for enjoying and shooting in melaka even though there are really plenty of shooting opportunities.

Suggestion: if you don't want to stay overnight, then depart singapore like 0600h latest to get into melaka by say 0900 or 0930h. much more pleasant lighting and temperature for shooting. then go food hunting and rest during mid day. maybe catch a few more shots from like 1500 - 1700 before returning; maybe shoot till 1800 and expect to arrive back in singapore 2100 instead.

Unfortunately in SG, you are considered a minor if you are below 21 (tat was still the age during my last touch on the law books).. so whatever forms you sign is not recognised in the eyes of the law

Guys,

I still feel that it's better to drive to Melaka as we can better control the timing of our arrival and departure. I like the idea of leaving early around 630 am and will play by ear if we still want to stay till late. The drive is around 2 - 2.5 hours. Important thing is we must practise safety when overseas.

Once the attendence is confirmed and no. of vehicles decided, we will proceed to get particulars of all the members going there, including emergency contact details.

As stated, other than the petrol cost and toll we will help to subsidize the driver, the rest of the expenses are on your own. Please bring sufficient ringgit and SGD to give to the drivers at the end of the day.
