AT-X 16-28mm F2.8 PRO FX..

Yeah, the distortion on the Nikon 16-35mm is rather hefty, which is one of the main reason that hold back many potential buyers.

i have use from the afs 17-35, 14-24, 16-35(briefly) and the tokina 16-28(still in process of pushing it and loving it day by day)

17-35(afs motor died on me twice image quality is still good at wide open.)
14-24(love it to max for the wideness and image quality and distortion but thou able to diy not many filter options)
16-35(distortion a pain but able to fix but i just dont know i dont like it, plus its F4, i rather have a 2.8 stop down, VR dont really need it even can shoot at 1/10 or lower, for most of my work it wont compensate for motion blur by subject when high i cant push my Iso further even if 2.8 - 4 is only a small diff, but i gain at least 1/30 of a second)
16-28(2.8, distortion well controlled, sharp wide open, cheaper option, able to take on 100mm filters...)

thus is my personal opinion, a few bro can attest that i have own and use these lenses as they shoot with me.. im not really a technical guy, as long it fits my bills my needs, my wallet.. its ok with me, plus i have a low threshold level for standards.

cheers...

should compare the contrast against back light or shooting into light source too.. in fact this is quite evident in KRW's test.. the nikkor 14-24 still holds the contrast and saturation where the Tokina falls a bit.
that's where the Nikon Nano coating will yield superior to Tokina's coating.
If just comparing within controlled lighting then no doubt tokina is bang for the buck.

hi how do you attach filters to the 16-28? i thought it had no filter thread and the front element is bulging out.

very interesting! sigh and i just bought the normal LEE filter holder for my tokina 11-16mm...

yup yup theres will always be a way, if u really wanna find it, well this is just a version 1.01.... hoping to improve it further for ease of use....

Yup yup. Btw love your new avatar.

Thank u every1 for the kind infor. Heard the sigma oso come out with a 12-??mm for FX model. Any1 tried tat lens?

think someone ever did a review of the sigma 12-24 here... try googling... or search CS forums...

the Tokina blows the 1635 out of the water in every aspect including IQ except for:

1. 1635 can take screw on filters
2. It has VR
3. it has slightly longer focal length.

Only #1 is important to me. Which is why I am still holding back on both the 16-28 and 16-35.

It is very rare that a lens (Nikon or 3rd party) gets compared to the 14-24 and is concluded to be close in performance. Kudos to Tokina.

Nikon needs to buck up. Tokina has now 2 killer UWA, one for dx, one for fx.

but will stubbornly stick to it since I like to use my screw-on filters :)

edit: The VR is helpful when intentionally stopping down (to increase DOF) and resultant shutter speed is kinda low.

But in conclusion, now knowing more about the Toki 16-28, I would be losing sleep if I had to choose between the 16-35VR and 16-28

Have already, don't think bro. When you bought it, you are satisfied with it, meant it met your needs then. So if your needs have not changed since then, then no problems Loh. ;)

If your needs have changed, you can always sell the 1635 and buy the Toki.

bro dont think too much lah, choosing the Nikkor was a easy choice as you had ya screw on filters already, as for me i go for tokina mainly for the 2.8 and i dont have any screw on filter....

like bert say, u feeling the Toki later, sell the 16-35 and u still have some cash left over.. the tokina is around $1200++
