Asterix goes to Myanmar

#34. Sunset from Mandalay Hill

We had our entire trip planned out in advance, in terms of flights, accomodation, airport transfers etc. This was such a big relief because we didn't waste any time. Except for Mandalay. We kept our options open thinking we could get a better deal for the day trip locally. Yes, we could. But then researching all that and exploring different travel agents takes up a lot of time. We reached Mandalay in the afternoon from Inle Lake and we spent over two hours in fixing up our itinerary for the next day - Mingun, Amarapura, Sagaing and back to UBein to shoot the sunset. And ended up paying the same price as what our travel agent had quoted us in the first place before we left Singapore :mad2:

In the process, we almost missed the sunset from Mandalay Hill. From the foothill, we literally sprinted up the steps and made it to the top in 5-7 mins (we were told it would take 25 mins). I just had enough time to setup my tripod and shoot a few frames.

Here's my first attempt at HDR. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
3 Photos taken at f/8 and bracketed at 1/25, 1/50 and 1/13s. ISO 100.
Used Photomatix 2.3.3 (yeah, have an ancient version). Strength 50, Saturation 60, Light smoothing : quite high (1 notch before the highest), Luminosity : 5

#35. Another eclipse ?

When photographing the sunrise from Mi-nyein-gon on the day of the Annular Solar eclipse, we were treated to another eclipse when a hot air balloon flew up and across in front of us and covered the sun :bsmilie:

Thanks. No, in the photo of the monks on UBein, there isn't any woman. The women monks that I saw in Myanmar wore light pink robes. I didn't take any photos of women monks as I was not sure how it would be perceived.

I agree... #35 is phenomenal! :)

Bro, I was just blessed. Happened to be at that spot. That's all.
There were two balloons in front of us and I was watching the one on the right closely (I am sure the rest of the people around me were waiting with anticipation as well). As the moment drew closer, I was mumbling to myself "come on. cover the sun. come on. cover the sun." And when it did, I shot a few frames in rapidfire mode, and yelled with joy "Eclipse !!!". There was all round laughter with my yelling. :bsmilie:

Thanks bro. I am going slow because every image that I view brings back a lot of memories. I end up watching 50 photos before I post one.

No comments on #34 ? Does it look too artificial ? What can I do to improve that image ? Any tips from you HDR gurus is most appreciated. Thanks.
