#22. Our boatman at Inle Lake

We speed away as a fire burns in the distance. No, this shot is not from an action movie :bsmilie:

Bro, thanks for the good words.
i suppose it might have to do with the mindset that i went with. just immersed myself totally and have been generally happy for no particular reason.

i myself didn't see any difference in the way i shot. myanmar is simply beautiful. maybe too beautiful.

and the company of two good understanding friends helped a lot. we all had no qualms about waking up at 4 in the morning, sleeping late, eating whatever food that came our way - as long as we had a good chance at the photo ops with the right light, we were contented :D

Regarding #12. Our horsecart driver dropped us and left in a hurry to feed his horse, while we could wait for the sun to set. So, that opportunity was lost (i wanted a trademark shot - shadows of the three of us). but i being the kiasu guy that i am, i waited for some more time. while my friends walked over to North Guni, I walked towards Dhamma-yan-gyi to see it from close. And i was rewarded. But I made a total mess of it. You will know when you see this photo.

#16. Another shot at Dhamma-yan-gyi pahto

Bro, No mess... it was nicely captured though it would be better if the horsecart is not under the shadow area.
Capturing people expression to tell a story is crucial for portrait... #17 is a better one.

Thx for those info on the other end of the Ubein Bridge.
Cheers

That's what I meant. Had I waited where I took the earlier photo of Dhammayangyi, I would've got the horsecart coming towards me in a nice position. I could've caught it at the bend. But I walked towards Dhammayangyi. I saw the horsecart coming towards me, kept looking through the viewfinder and waited for the right moment to press the shutter. and the moment when i pressed the shutter, the horsecart had entered the shadow of the tree. Should've seen the shadow before. this is what is called not being in the present moment. I was already thinking of the result and I messed it up.

i have never been good at portraits. feel too awkward at pointing a camera to people's faces - feel far more comfortable shooting landscapes and inanimate objects. this time around, i did attempt even though it still felt awkward. so it was just a quick aim and shoot and then show the result to them and engage them in further conversation. still lots to learn.

Here's one to end the day.

Amazing Photos!

Thank you.

#25. After the crowds had left Mi-nyein-gon

Hard to believe that less than an hour back this whole area was teeming with hundreds of tourists to watch the sunrise. Some monkeys like us, were perched at the highest tier. How much more kiasu can one get ?

#26. Close shave

Even though we had reached early at the monastery at Amarapura, we refused to join the jostling crowds to take photos of the monks queuing up. So, we wandered around. Chanced upon this sight...

Later, we went up to the balcony away from the crowds. This is the view that you get from up there...

#28. Tolerance amidst torture

I feel so blessed that I don't have to undergo this test day in and day out...

#29. To gain merit ?

We witnessed a very well coordinated effort at sweeping the surroundings of Shwedagon Pagoda. I guessed that this effort/service was meant to gain some merit... I might be wrong too...

9. Looking at the sun through a solar filter

Overall, you have a very nice series and variations, but I particularly like this shot (and shots like this), where the fleeting moment of emotions is captured. :)

yes, i enjoyed the candid shots and the simplicity of the people. little things like watching the sun through a filter was enough to excite them.

Absolutely stunning series!

#30. Another view of Dhammayangyi from top of North Guni temple

As the shadows lengthened in the plains of Bagan, managed to shoot another view of Dhammayangyi with the shadow of North Guni temple as bonus :)

#32. Cute granny

Engaged in a conversation with this granny using sign language. She used to grin when I would be talking to her. The moment I would lift my camera, her mouth would close shut. I shot several frames and showed to her. She would grin non-stop looking at her photos. However, lift camera, mouth shut. :bsmilie:

Moving on to Sagaing.

We had woken up at half past 3 in the morning (at least I did. I was the first one to wake up, shower and get ready), gone to Mingun around 5 something. Upon return, we went to Amarapura and by the time we reached Sagaing, we were tired and hungry. Had a good meal at a local restaurant and then went up Sagaing Hill. There are lots and lots of temples and monastries - all interconnected by cascading steps like a mini-Great Wall.

We went to just 3 temples and had enough. It was hot. Considering this was winter, wonder how it would be in April/May.

The first one we went to was called Umin Thounzeh means 30 Caves. Inside there are 45 Buddhas. 22 similar Buddhas to the left, 22 similar Buddhas to the right and one in the middle is different.

#33. Umin Thounzeh (30 caves)

Go ahead and count. There should be 30 caves (arches).
