Asterix goes to Myanmar

You've got great photos in this thread of yours asterixsg, made me a fan :)

i think sometimes we start thinking that the world is our oyster. we get numb to the fact that our subjects are feeling, living, thinking human beings as well.

it is not just humans, it is also the place as well.

In a certain sense, I am guilty of this as well. I don't think I had or will ever go that near to disturb the subject, but I will definitely bear this in mind in future. I am glad to have learnt more important things (than photography) in this forum. Thanks!

#12. The eclipse chasers

Our first day at Bagan. Spoilt with so many choices to view/photograph the sunset, we finally decided to go to North/South Guni temple. As I was fumbling with my camera, our horsecart driver drove away at a fast pace (I wish I could've composed this shot with the horsecart in the frame as well)

i am going around telling all my friends that they should visit myanmar at least once in their lifetime. i will tell the same to you too. you should put myanmar at the top of your "must go" list :)
i understand that different people have different tastes. some people want to travel in 5-Star comfort and like to be pampered all over. but if you want to meet genuine people, who smile their genuine smiles at you, if you want to meet contented people (despite whatever hardships they have to endure in life), if you want to see what faith and devotion is, then myanmar is the place to travel to. of course, the landscapes are a bonus.

Bro, thanks for the good words.
i suppose it might have to do with the mindset that i went with. just immersed myself totally and have been generally happy for no particular reason.

i myself didn't see any difference in the way i shot. myanmar is simply beautiful. maybe too beautiful.

and the company of two good understanding friends helped a lot. we all had no qualms about waking up at 4 in the morning, sleeping late, eating whatever food that came our way - as long as we had a good chance at the photo ops with the right light, we were contented :D

Regarding #12. Our horsecart driver dropped us and left in a hurry to feed his horse, while we could wait for the sun to set. So, that opportunity was lost (i wanted a trademark shot - shadows of the three of us). but i being the kiasu guy that i am, i waited for some more time. while my friends walked over to North Guni, I walked towards Dhamma-yan-gyi to see it from close. And i was rewarded. But I made a total mess of it. You will know when you see this photo.

#16. Another shot at Dhamma-yan-gyi pahto

sorry, forgot about #13.

OK, one end of U Bein is the Maha Ganayon Kyaung (infamous for the feeding monks thingy). The other end is where everyone seems to go for sunset. We didn't walk the whole length of the U Bein. We started from the other end (i.e. the one farthest away from Maha Ganayon Kyaung) and arranged for a boatman to pick us up from halfway point - where you can go down the steps. So, we walked only half the length of the bridge and the rest of the time we spent on the boat watching the sun go down. There you go. You just sent me back in time. Again. ;)

Sorry, I got the focussing all wrong, but I wanted to post the last two photos as a pair. Pardon the poor quality of my take.
