Damn Swee !!

Better catch all this beauty before they all turn to water :p

Seriously beautiful series !

Regarding the golden circle route , I am planning to round Pingvellier National Park / Strokkur / Gullfoss and kiv Kerio crater in a day
( stay overnight at Gullfoss Hotel )

Did you visit Kerio ?
Was it a little too far off ? ( I cannot seem to locate it too well on my GPS iceland map  )

Also, there was a popular Nesjavellir Power station that if along the way I might just drop by and look see look see

Thanks. I am humbled by your comments. There are several wonderful travel photo series in ClubSNAP and elsewhere... This is my attempt to share the beauty of Iceland and encourage more of us to visit this wonderful country with its beautiful landscapes and beautiful people :)

Hi Ryan,
First of all, Kerið (pronounced as Kerith) is on route 35 between Selfoss and Reykholt (more towards Selfoss). Its bang on the route 35, so you can't miss it. When I went, everything was snow covered and I was quite disappointed. I was hoping to get pictures like I had seen on the internet of the blue crater lake etc.... In August, you should get lovely views of the crater lake and the surroundings.

In terms of covering all the places you mentioned, it really depends on the route that you will take to drive.

I suppose you will head out east from Reykjavik and then head north-east on route 36 to go to Þingvellir. From there you will take route 365 to Laugarvatn, which then becomes Route 37 to Geysir/Strokkur and then to Gulfoss and then overnight at Hotel Gulfoss . In which case, you will not hit Kerið.

You do have a choice to not take route 365, and instead continue south on Route 36 after Þingvellir, and when you hit route 35, you can turn left and head in a north-east direction. Then you will get to see Kerið (it will come to your right side if you are heading north-east on route 35) and if you continue on Route 35, you will then meet Route 37 just before Geysir (around 12 kms before Geysir). This detour will easily take you an additional 2 hours or so, including time spent at Kerið.

I do not know what your plan is after Gulfoss. Are you heading south towards Vik ? If yes, then after visiting Þingvellir, you can do the route 365/37 to Gulfoss. And on your way to Vik from Gulfoss, you will anyway have to drive on Route 35 to Selfoss (unless Route 31 and 30 open up, in which case you will bypass Selfoss altogether...)

Hope this doesn't sound all too confusing... If you need any help, just lemme know...

I didn't go to Nesjavellir Power station. If I remember correctly, my friend had read something about the visitor's centre there being closed around the time of our visit or something like that. I didn't bother to check its location either, so can't really help on that one...

Cheers...

45. Frozen Kerið

This one is for giantcanopy aka Ryan, who asked for Kerið :bsmilie:

Man, such a disappointment to see this version of Kerið. I will be looking forward to one with nice blue skies, lush greenery around and the blue crater lake. Please fulfill my dream. ha ha ha...

46. Dyrhólaey Lighthouse

I don't have any decent captures of Dyrhólaey as it had started to rain by the time I had reached the top of the hill overlooking Dyrhólaey. There were raindrops constantly drenching my lens and after several futile attempts at cleaning the lens, I decided that it wasn't meant to be. On my way back down the hill, I turned around and got a record shot of the lighthouse. Nothing spectacular about it, just for memory sake...

47. Light

Went driving around the west coast of Snaefellsnes and visited couple of lighthouses... There were lots of photo opportunities with snow covered lava fields. We even sighted an arctic fox in a distance and saw its pug marks near one of the lighthouses where we parked our car later...

The lighting was quite tricky for this shot below, but there was a certain mood in it which I am not sure if I've been able to capture well...

48. Fly away

Reminds me of yet another favourite number of John Denver.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLuRxZikJ5A

This photo was shot at the parking lot of Jokulsarlon, ruing over a flat tyre and unable to remove the spare tyre because we didn't have the right spanner in the toolkit. Two angels appeared out of nowhere to assist and give us moral support. They even removed the spare tyre from their car to see if it could fit ours... Was really touched by their gesture... God bless them...

We were wondering what to do, when I saw a flock of geese flying towards us. I ran to the car, grabbed the camera with the 70-200mm lens and captured a series of frames, as the geese flew towards us, then above us and away from us... Fly away...

Couple of phone calls to CheapJeep, and in less than an hour, a farmer came along with a huge box of spanners and other tools and within minutes changed the flat tyre and replaced it with the spare. Soon, we were on our way - leaving excellent weather at Jokulsarlon to some pathetic weather at Svartifoss. Such is life....

I've enjoyed the last couple of months re-living some of my wonderful Iceland memories. Thanks for your comments along the way. Hopefully, I will be able to keep those suggestions in mind as I continue on this photographic journey of life.

I do hope that many of you will visit this beautiful country in the future. Trust me, it will be a life changing experience. The wide open spaces, friendly people, Mother Nature in all Her splendour - it will certainly do something to you...

I could go on and on, but for now, I will leave you with these two last images of Iceland. And after that, let this thread be buried. I will not be coming back to this thread anymore. So, if you have any specific questions, feel free to drop me a note.

Its time to move on...

Takk Fyrir and Bless...
