Hello,
Beautiful shots! What type of lens did you shoot with?
Been there in 2002 for my honeymoon. Only for five days. All I can say is,
this city is AWESOME! Yeah, it is expensive. But you will be suprise to find a
lot of cheap stuff. I am impress with the Japanese. Even as our friend mentioned they are a bit "cold". I find their manners is top class. Will have to save up to go again.

thanks :)

shots taken with nikkor 12-24/24-120/80-200 lenses..

real glad that you had your wonderful time in tokyo. their manners are much better than most singaporeans in general. you should plan for a 2nd honeymoon... :bsmilie:

Agree. Just back from two weeks in Japan and found the Japanese much friendlier and warmer than I expected. Smiles everywhere and very helpful. Many pleasant encounters e.g. when I was lost and tried to ask for directions and an old lady furiously tried to explain and show me the way and even brought me to the fire station to ask for a map (i think)..me knowing no Japanese and she can't understand my English. :P When I was taking pictures of bonsai in a park an old man stopped beside me and had an excited conversation with me (in Japanese!) on the beauty of bonsai and how to take good pictures of them (i think)...he kept talking and showed me his pictures on his camera and looked at mine...for about 10 minutes and not realising I can't understand what he was saying. I just kept nodding and made appreciative sounds at appropriate intervals. :sweatsm: ;p
On another bus tour one couple kept giving us treats (giving and receiving). etc.

Their service attitude is excellent. I feel that generally they are having fun and genuinely happy with their work.

Can find cheap stuff too...like the 100 yen shops and at the Ameya Yokochou street at Ueno in Tokyo.

glad you had a good time in japan.

the street is called Ameyoko (sorry for correcting that...hahaha)

well, that's only you, and many others might not feel the same, or encountered the same as you.
i've been visiting tokyo at least twice every year since 1991, and i still finds it interesting. i've also been to rural farm areas too, and up in hokkaido. i've stayed in some expensive hotels in toyko (imperial hotel, capitol tokyo) and even had my wedding ceremony and party in tokyo. there is a warm side in tokyo, just that you didn't get to feel it.

anyway, thanks for sharing what you encountered there...

Yes, it was my experience. But to be fair to the Japanese, I did experienced the warmth of Japanese people, especially from rural and sub-urban parts. Besides, I still enjoy the landscapes, scenery and foods from Japan. I try to tune to Japan Hour every Sunday to relive the memorable time I had while there.

Talking about Japan, my most memorable event is when the train I'm on split into 2. Each going different directions. I had a shock when the carridge i'm on went in the direction I'm not suppose to be going. And it took us some furious 1/2 jap 1/2 english conversation with some passengers to finally understand that the train had split into 2. haha :p

haiz...been to japan a few times....but never seriously start photography...sad...anywae...the photos look great...i feel they reflect urban life of japan...

anywae...i got rural shots(snapshots) of rural life in japan...happened to live there for a very short while in 1998.... anyone interested...hav to go dig film and scan....

My impression of Japan (Tokyo especially) before I went there in Dec 2003 was that it's a developed country whose pace of life if way faster than that in S'pore... hence, I didn't really expect anything more from them...

But after meeting up with some Japanese friends in Tokyo, Fukuoka and Osaka, my opinion of Japanese changed... Knowing that my friend and I were visiting Japan the first time, these Jap friends really went all out to bring us all around (even though they could only spare one day from their hectic work schedule) and keep us entertained... Our Fukuoka friends even threw a party to welcome us... It felt really strange because we were in a house full of Japanese (about 30 of them) and only a few could speak reasonable English... But we still had a great time there...

What's most amazing was that we never met most of these friends before as we only knew them through ICQ/ MSN... ;)

I guess I still have such fond memories of Japan because of the people I got to know... it's no longer just a beautiful country with beautiful sceneries anymore... :)

Truly beautiful. I noticed sculptured gardens with trimmed 'bonsai' plants on the left of photos. May I know where are these places, if you can recall ?

Hi rncw, Thanks for your prompt reply. Is Saitama north of Tokyo? My geographical knowledge of Japan is becoming poorer. Is the bright blue column-like in front of the family's photos an indoor heater to raise indoor temperature.
