er ... I dun see anything wrong with pressing charges only now ... probably due to cases scheduling, this case was not to be heard until months later ...
since the guy is faced w a more serious charge, can use 1 court session to "settle" both cases for speedier process. Afterall, having a knife in public is not as serious a crime compared to many others that come before the Courts. If he was caught in the act of rioting, his case would hv been heard much earlier ...
Remember that guy who took a powerful showroom car out to spin w the sales lady. The case came up pretty late as well.

I feel somewhat sorry for him. A evening's folly has changed his future drastically.
According to the report on CNA, the problem is suppose to have been localized to his unit. Those officers in his unit will most likely kenna big-time also. :sweat:

I dont pity him, he knew the consequences and he was clearly prepared to do something drastic. As seen from having a knife and smuggling 3 live rounds from a range practice. I pity the guard commander, guard 2IC, DO who will most likely be charged and maybe get a stint in DB too.
not to forget the ORD shoot Conducting Officer ... actually I think tt the Guard Comm they all not so jalat ... afterall, the guy could hv really been sick or became unconscious somewhere. If you raise an alarm everytime a serviceman is not accounted for, GSOC also panic like mad ... There are always very innocent reasons why things happen.
Unfortunately this time round, the guy went awol with a rifle and live rounds, was arrested in orchard. Was in the news, had parliament talking about it. And best of all, in the news reported as failure to follow operating procedure and human error was cause of incident. Also most important of all the line "personnel involved will be punished". Heads will definetely roll as an example and warning to all. Someone must be the scrapegoat.
The DO, guard comm, 2ic and maybe even his buddy are going to be charged. Most likely guard comm will kanna DB. All because of one unsound fellow....

Yeah I think those guard duty personal screw up big time and will kenna charge but I dun think he is unsound. Being an infantry old bird, he would have observed and knew how to get a SAR 21 out during guard duty. And plus the live tracers he stole from range.....man somemore they're tracers. And what is his intention when he was at Cineleisure with the rifle and bullets? Shoot to kill lor! :bigeyes:

U been to the guard room before? Maybe there are windows at other sides that are not grilled and have no parapet.

Different camps have different guard room but most is on the ground level.

Yeah so there might be windows on the other side. U never know till u see it for yourself in photos or person.
My NSF camp's guard room is of similar design, with the parapet in front and is a 2 level design. Bunks and lounge are at the 2nd level and there are windows on ALL sides. Otherwise, it will be too stuffy.
But unlike this Mandai Hill camp, u can't jump over the fence as its too far away. Unless frog prince!
yeah, I know what you mean. I totally agree that he deserves to be punished. However, when you consider the overall picture that's been painted of him so far in the media, he does get a measure of sympathy from me.
As for the Guard comm, DO etc, I'm not so sure. Yes, they are damn suay for being caught up in this incident. Yes, their lives/future may have been also negatively impacted too. (Altho it's interesting to note that none of the other parties have been named publicly to date..hmm.)
But perhaps this is a case where if everyone had been carrying out their responsibilities properly instead of cutting corners, then Dave would have never succeed. :think:
In the end, without knowing what actually happened, its not fair to say who's at fault.

If the Guard Comd/G2IC gets into trouble/DB/lose a place in the local university because of some idiot, I think that idiot should really look around and watch himself when he is out in the future.
