10 years ago, when there no bills for me to pay, I may say yes, especially if it is job I love to do. Now, I'll definintely say no. There too much bills to pay, and my priority has shifted to my family. Now I work for the money and not for my passion.

that why people cannot say we are money face... we had no choice but to chase for money.

I think its quite sad...
I see that many people are willing to accept a low pay to do a job they love, but they say becos of family and bills, they just work for the mulla.
Its sad that we live in a society where we are forced to sell our lives just for the sake of paying bills.
Sighhhh......

When she tried to stand up, the blood actually shot to her heart, causing her to collapse......... According to her Mom, she was working non-stop for the past 8 hours with the lap top on her lap, replying emails and work related stuff, so this proves what the doctors had examined as well.

> > Not worth earning $ at the expense of your health.

While I emphatise with you, after reading your story (i did not read the blog), I have a few things to say:
I totally agree its 'not worth earning $ at the expense of your health'. BUT, I don't see the need to sacrifice your health in order to earn money. It is a matter of taking care of your health even at work and taking some common sense measures.

In your friend's case, she need not sit for a straight 8 hrs even if it requires that long to finish her work. She should get up and take a walk at least every 2-3 hours. Just a short walk or even just standing up to get a stretch. Wouldn't cost more than 30 seconds which really wouldn't affect the work at all. And also, does she have to put the laptop on her lap? I dun understand why anyone would wanna do that... the laptop is such a heavy thing and so uncomfortable to have it on your lap. Having a laptop on your lap for a long time is one of the most detrimental things to blood circulation. The laptop exerts pressure on your thighs and blood circulation to and from the legs become poor. This is probably what caused the blood clot. Even if it did not form a blot clot, your legs would feel numb or have cramps of the pins and needles thing when you finally remove the laptop.

Its all common sense and how much you care about your health to have the discipline to take a short break in your work every now and then. If you need to sit in front of the computer for long hours, make sure your chair is at a right height and the monitor is at the right distance and height from your eyes. Make sure you get the correct posture otherwise many chronic problems would surely develop. Let your eyes take a short break and look at distant, pleasing things every now and then to prevent eye strain.

Work usually places certain demands on our body and no company would hire a health officer to specially make sure employees are taking care of their health. It is the responsibility of the individual to take care of his health. Afterall, no health, no wealth... you can't work if you're sick.

With escalating living costs, it's very difficult to settle for low pay no matter how much you love the job :(

Hello everyone, Here are my 2 cents thoughts

Life like photography is about balance.
You give and take. There is such a thing call volunteer work where people dun get paid and they do what they want.

But like many of what you said. You cannot do what you like without being fed full first. right?

Personally, I think that if I can survive on the crappy pay, I'll do the job. There will be a time when living cost is too high, or my life have more demands then I'll have to give up the job and look for something that pays more. For the mean time, I can enjoy the moment and treasure the time when I'm working there.

Life is not about the destination, it is the journey. It is not that you get a crappy pay and the job you love and case closed, you live happily ever after.
When I go take photos with my friends. Sometimes the photos come out to be craps (I'm not a good photographer) But the process of learning and the moments with friends and the pretty models is great.

Lastly, I have this naive believe that if you love something and you stick to it, in the end you will be good and people will pay you for what it is worth.

Thank you everyone!

Happy Shooting!

I need 2 jobs to survive in Singapore.

Let alone a crappy pay for the job you love will only last a few crappy months.

So let's be realistic especially if you have a house to pay, car to pay, kids to be brought up and all the other stuffs that the Goverment is increasing, then no way you can survive with a crappy pay.

I define crappy pay as in less than SGD$2000 and below per month.

If you are one of those staying with your parents.............then I have nothing to say.

Since I'm still a student and no need to pay for bills, support my parents and all those stuff, then most definitely yes. I'll even work for free.

But when I have to support myself AND my family then will have to go for it and get a job with pay suffice to pay for all my needs. I quote what a person once said (can't remember her name.),

"Money is not everything, it's the ONLY thing."

In other words, no money no talk lor. ): Sad world man.
Wonder if there's anything we can do to change this system, like fat hope leh.

Historically the best art and music were produced by artists and musicians when they were in destitute and half starved.

So maybe the bosses are in the opinion that the best work will be performed by people when they are paid not enough even to eat? :)

I dont have any pay for what i have been doing and i love it.

Again, individuals' needs are different. Sometime ask yourself why you have so many bills? Is it necessary?

Always spend within your reach, never never wear an over sized hat as it will blind you and cause you fall to death.

As for me, i never believe in balance, espeacially in life. It's sure either side is lighter or heavier than the other side.

There is never right or wrong in life, it just a matter of how you look at it.

it's all about contentment

A crappy job/boss is not worth the higher pay.

There's a limit to how much one can endure.

peace of mind rules over the wallet... life is not that long to enjoy... less pain is preferred.

of cos, pay must not be too low lah..
