Are there any 3rd party flash for sony?

errr dont. 20am is meant as a optical trigger for A850 and A900. You will be sorely disappointed if you get that intending to use it... if you are on a budget, I suggest the Yong Nuo YN460..

really? yong nuo i see only canon and nikon mount.. do i need an adapter?.. was thinking of getting a 100+ ext flash before i save up for the expensive F42AM..

yep you do need an adapter... im not sure if TTL works but its a powerful flash which works great in manual

sorry double post..

Acctually what does TTL means? when you say manual.. does it mean that the flash wont be fired when i press the shutter of the camera? have to fire the flash myself?

TIA

TTL means through the lens, where the flash will be able to automatically gauge and set the flash power based on metering info "through the lens".

It should fire if you have an adapter, but its safer to google and read just in case.

What I meant manual is that the flash power and zoom you might have to set yourself.

TTL = Through the lens.
Here's a link for your reading pleasure: ttp://www.moosepeterson.com/techtips/flash.html
(Scroll down to 'Here comes TTL')

Manual setting means that you have to judge the situation and adjust the power of the flash manually. You don't need to fire full power at times.

Hey guys, recently theres a new yongnuo 462 made for sony flash.. and is able to TTL.. but dunno if it can be used on a a550.. issit a good starter flash? i plan to get a cheaper one($135 for the yong nuo) before i go on to F42AM sort of pricing..

if its made for sony hotshoe of course u can use it without an adaptor..

if it supports TTL means it supports?

like everyone else. i would still recommend the 42am

i mean, from the thread, it supports a100/a200 etc etc but never mentioned a550.. might go down and try.. well, i know the F42AM is good, but having to spend 400+ on something i have no experience on, i cant do it.. so i rather get a cheaper flash to play around before i decide if i want to upgrade to F42AM anot.. thanks.

Thanks for your advice.. currently i got a offer of a minolta 3600HSD.. price roughly the same as 3rd party flash.. issit a good flash to start with? i believe its better than 3rd party right? should i give it a go?

thanks.

im currently using a yong nuo flash which cost me only $75. You'll need an adaptor though (which is pretty cheap) but this is a cheap and good setup :)

However there's no TTL, its full manual (which is not a bad thing, u can learn better with manual flash anyway)

The Minolta 3600HSD is quite a good flash. I was using that before upgrading to the 5600HSD. The difference is that the 3600HSD can only move up and down but cannot swivel left and right so taking pictures in portrait orientation may have a bit of problem unless you are using it off camera.

Other than portrait, i need it to for Aquarium photography too.. so i need to use it off camera.. can the manual yongnuo be able to do that if i buy a trigger too?
and also, if i get the 3600HSD, can i use the PT04(I often hear this but dunno what exactly is this) trigger to wirelessly trigger the flash without using my pop-up flash?

thanks.

yong nuo?

Can. Why not? But flash power needs to set manually of cos, since no TTL.

oh interesting.. may pay artworkfoto a visit then. thanks.. i don't mind learning manually but i want it to be able to be fired off camera. thanks!;)
