Are M43 lenses really smaller

Consider the de rigueur Nifty Fifty f1.8
M43 version:
Voigtlander 25mm f0.95 (x2 crop =50mm f1.9)

DSLR:
Nikon 50mm f1.8

Not if you're chasing 100% equivalence. When using m43, I accept that the DOF is one of the key differences/compromises (can be a limitation or strength, depending on what you're using it for) from other systems and actually don't worry too much about matching that. Counter productive. Otherwise I'd need a 12-35 1.4 and and 35-100 1.4 also! ;p So I'd be quite happy with a 25 1.4/1.8 as the 'nifty fifty' for the system.

I think M43 just has to keep the package small to make any sense. It can be done!
