Are Food prices going up?

Well it is getting more expensive for the hawker to sustain his stall so he/she has to up their prices to afloat plus how can they have any "increment" or "bonus" like the salary folk. Everyone wants to make more money so who willing to volunteer to take less and earn less on our behalf? hehehe anyone? But of course he/seh raise their price too much and the food is not tasty, they too will reach a point where they will perish too.

When times were good, they increase price people complain. Now they not doing well and have to raise their price a little, people also complain. We sure like to have our cake and eat it all by our self heheh... Whose going to pay the cake makers?

It's funny how like at my last working place, it is usually the calculative, the one that goes home on the dot, take the most MC and seldom want to work late that are the one complaining the most about when they are getting their bonuses, or how little they are getting or how come no early pay day as the season of festivities is upon us. heh

And no i see no difference between locals and FT a like in that respects. :bsmilie:

I have noticed from past trend that when public transportation goes up by a couple of cents, food stall holders increase prices by at least fifty cents. Could it be that they have to spend more commuting from home?

Lo and behold some of these food operators are driving posh cars .....:o

it is getting more and more expensive to live in this country..

All we need is more farmlands to be self-sufficient in foods.

Our enemies don't have to invade us. They just have to stop the food supply. :)

It started already. Somewhere around block 76x in Pasir Ris someone has a rooster on the corridor. Every morning the screaming .. feels like farm holidays.

Better save it for Chinese New Year when the chicken price is double. :bsmilie:

Well that's life for hawkers too.. if your food is "no horse run" everyone come from near and far to eat it and you can decide to charge as much as people are willing to pay you. You have just as fair a chance to make it big, own big house and car too be it you are a hawker.

If you are a lazy hawker who keep cooking the same average standard fare or worst have no real passion for it but take over from your parents, your standard over time drops, use inferior ingredients and take less care to improve or expand your range of dishes then you will see patrons disappearing. No different from anyone else seeking to succeed in a modern corporate environment. Everyone from top to bottom has to face the possibility that mediocrity can happen to anyone. heheh.

How many times have we come across great hawker stall that cook so nice we would travel across the island to eat and even if they raise their prices, we bitch but yet we keep patronizing them. heh

Please take comfort in the fact that Singapore high-end productivity performance is best in the world.

And our high-end tech wages and public services pays are the highest in the region.

:)

First, our productivity has been declining.
And worse, business owners think they can up productivity simply by motivating the staff, rather than doing concrete things like streamlining workflow or making staff use new innovations :bsmilie:

Second, Sg's high tech exports (aerospace, computers, pharmaceuticals, instruments, machineries, etc...) as percentage of gdp has been declining since 04. :bsmilie:

let me guess, finance has been increasing ? :)

climate change around the globe will cause poor harvests, resulting in lower food supplies and disruption in food chains, since supply is lower and demand is ever rising, food prices will be impacted.

My usual char siew rice stall increased the price from $3 to $3.50. Now is $4.

Will cheap oil price lower down cost of living?

I think this one also partly because some Singaporeans are trading commercial property/coffeeshop stalls etc. Everytime the property switch hands, the owner want to raise rental, because the seller sell him at high price. Keep doing this, and the rental gets ridiculous.
