Hmm threads like these really get me reading

Kinda scary to see forumers having hifi as a hobby as well as photography

The 2 most expensive hobbies i feel

Anyway, entry level amps ... a rotel RA-01 or 02 would suffice with pre-amp outputs for future expansion. For NAD, the C320BEE would be enough as well.

You can also get a HT reciever from Marantz as they make a excellent stereo and HT combo when you need it.

Presently, using a NAD C300 amplifier, a pair of KRK Systems speakers tapped to my main pre / power setup (which is another story :p ) Source is a AMC cd player... the combo is marvellous.

hey dude,

ermmm...what u mean by spent >10k in Adelphi, in the end also like that?

care to share the details?

Cheers........

PS. Don't look down on the Sim Lim shop, it ain't bad if you know what you are doing. I spent more than 10K in Adelphi, in the end also like that....

Pure hifi ... i wouldn't touch the AEGO ... no offence.

Once a PC speaker will always be a PC speaker.

Hmm....Is it a PC speaker? Thought it was marketed as proper Hifi for peanuts money. Like i said, it was marketed and connected to multi-kilobuck components (eg CD-17KI, Kimber Kable cables) back then in 96/97 over at local Hifi shows in Le Meridien. Sounded great, and it was not only me but many of my audiophile friends. Have not found anything similar (speakers + amp combi) for $299.

I have it, sounds great and can hold its own as long as your expectations are within limits and go for its strengths (eg don't expect good results with Sofie Von Mutter on a Stradivari playing with the Wiener Philharmonic), it's actually sitting beside my Senn HD600 + Earmax single-ended triode tubie and SACD player. Of course it's not pure Hifi, but like i mentioned it's definitely better than the avg Bose AM5 at 800-900 bucks?

is the CDP still functioning well?
AFAIK, some old CDP are robustly built and maybe worth a 2nd look.

if still functional, give it a spin and see if you are happy with the sound, if yes you've got urself a CDP for the time-being and save some $ at the same time....

Cheers

Anyone heard of philips cd players? i have this player cd951 that is collecting dust, my father dont seem to use it anymore. Was wondering if I can use it. Then I will be able to concentrate on just getting an amp to begin my sound journey. ;p

Altec Lansing MX 5021 for about $230? (dunno current price) I like it a lot, i thinks its even better than the more expensive Altec Lansing FX 6021.

they should have a booth at the ITshow.. maybe got promo..

Bro...I think the Aego 2 would absolutely trash the 5021, listened to quite a fair bit to it too. Really.....but if you are going to plug the PC and games to it, then perhaps not so much diff lor. heh... Problem with the Aego 2 is that it's too cheap, so people think it's just another Klipsch 2.1 or what. You should do a knuckle rap on the subwoofer and satellites, esp the satellites.....no resonance, solid. Do a knuckle rap on the 5021 or the Klipsch THX stuff, i leave it to you to deduce which is better.

Take a listen and blast some music on the Aego 2, it plays quite loud too and definitely louder than 5021. Efficiency of the drivers, not only system power, i guess. Trust me. :D

The CDP is working fine. Think I'll settle with the CDP and my KEF speakers. I will hunt for the amp. I guess the combi should be better than a sony set. Any idea how much the NAD 320BEE is going for?

*evil grin*

is the budget still $1500 for the Amp alone? if yes, go for something better manz!!! haha

wahhh you ahhh ... :nono: evil man ... $1500 for a integrated i feel is a little too much. I much rather go for a pre/power setup... so next time just upgrade the speakers.

not really too much lah.... remember that pre/power would give you another set of matching problem, more money for interconnects, and $1500 for pre/power also not that enuf...limited to NAD/Rotel/Marantz again lor....

vicious cycle once started.... the cure? Dun Even Think about Starting.... hiak hiak........

 Very true ... :bsmilie:

Anyway at some point in time, 1 still has to invest in good interconnects to get the most out of the system...

Like what I mention earlier, if still not enuff after pre-power amp setup, do bi-amping loh! One power amp for each side of the speakers. :bsmilie:

Hahaha, I will just concentrate on getting an amp for now.
Any reviews on the NAD 320Bee as compared to the 352?

oh ya... laugh... u the winner lor!! you started out asking advise for what Spiks, Amp and CDP to get...later you found a pair of spiks in the store room, then ur dad has a old CDP, did you check under ur bed? maybe there is an Int Amp waiting there for u!!!

heh...joking onli lah....

hehe...potentially better than bose ;p yeah i think the philips cd player and your kef's should be a good start. go splurge the $1500 on the amp. next month upgrade cd player, then following month upgrade speakers, and so on :D

Haha, i was pleasantly surprised also. Apparently my father's friend gave him those speakers about 10 years back, and we thought nothing of them and left them in the store.
As for the CDP... my father got it sometime back, but later, due to lack of space, decided to replace the CDP with a DVD player. haha. Maybe under my bed got some interconnects.. :D

:D

Well, good luck and have fun in your hunt for your Int Amp!! too bad I'm not in town else I would be glad to join you in your hunt for the amp....

or do you want to wait for me to return in May 05? ;p

heh

:bsmilie: you're a bad influence...

The NAD C320Bee should be a good choice as it comes down from a lot of revisions since the original C320.

The C352 also evolves from the C350 originally. Both should be a safe choice, just up to your ears and wallet to decide i guess :p
