ARCA-SWISS Monoball P0

seriously, look at the monoball P0 slim, long stem.

compare it to the likes of markin (q3, m10, m20), acratech (gp, gv2, ultimate), arcaswiss, kangpoh (the china made one).

it is new design, opposite of the traditional, but still, it is only as strong as its weakest link. going by this logic, will the ability for the P0's stem to absorb the vibrations be as good as the rest?

Yup, I agree....
I'll do more research on the other ball heads... but I do hope to find something that fits my landscape (mostly) and macro needs. And something light enough for trekking long distances.

Try Arcatech ballhead or markin q3T lah. CP now having discount for Markin q3T @ $389. hehe .. good steal price.

CAn lah. Just do it. Anyway if the price at BnS is about $350, why bother to get a 2nd one where else new one cost only a few more dollar more. :P

Hi All, I nhave bought this ballhead for quite some time already > 4months. Was skeptical at first mainly due to its creative design and load capacity. After some serious pyshoing and 2 hours in of testing in the shop, i finally decided to buy it. No regrets, its very light weight and durable. Especially since i hate to carry heavy equipment for field trip. It locks into position quickly and i have no issue in manoveuring this ballhead, even for panning, macro etc. Loading capacity is no a big concern for me, i use this ballhead together with my 40D + grip, 300mm f2.8, + flash. No issues at all.

That however to my 2 cents of opinion. Every man have there own sets of preference. To me this ballhead is really performs as compared to my previous manfrotto ballhead.

hi quek,
Was thinking of getting 1 for hiking. Are you using the new plates as well? I wanted to get this ballhead and subsequently replaces all my plates with the smaller 1. Any suggestions?

The thing which bothers me to no end is the bloody head cannot take standard Arca Swiss plates!!!!! How stupid is that?!?!?!

going to revive this thread for those who are interested in this ballhead...

I've personally tried it when my friend decide to get it after trying the markins T3Q for a week or so. Not that Markins is not good, just that he wanted better ones.

You have to use an actual setup to test the p0 to know how it works. We tried it on his heaviest setup - 400 f5.6 with a gripped 550D, the ballhead is very smooth and very easy to handle. I've been using the conventional ballhead for more than a decade but the learning curve of this ballhead was only a few minutes. It just feel very secure and intuitive.

My friend subsequently went home with this setup and try to carry the tripod over the shoulders and find that you need really hard knock on the ballhead to make it move. Because I always travel with my body and lenses over the shoulders with a tripod, he thought that was very unsafe to do so which is why he tried that at home with the p0 and concluded that this ballhead can do the same like my z1. Of course the only difference is the weight of his setup but its relatively safe to do so.

Another thing about this ballhead is that arca swiss came out with a very nice universal L plate for the p0 new slidefix clamp as well. The one on the left is the 1 for slidefix. The right 1 is for normal AS plate.

My friend bought it and again its very versatile as well. He don't like our custom plates like the RRS and kirk which practically locks him into a particular gear and in this digital age, he find it a waste to keep changing them.

If anyone is interested, Cathay has all the items to try.
