This one seems a bit overexposed. Using Aperture priority means have to get the EV correct, and in this case, setting to EV+1 may have caused this. I assume this was taken by Mrs scubagolfer?

I think this was probably the best you could have done given the situation. Opening to f22 was a good choice in this case, otherwise taking anything less than 10s will result in broken car light lines, even though it would cause the star effects and diffraction. We gotta learn the right stuff... and then break the rules ;)

Haha, yep , the missus took this ... still have alot of pics have go through yet ... overexposed alot, underexposed alot, just nice , no have :embrass:

Though the above shot overexposed she like it keke

Wow.. I like the second photo, especially the sky! I never notice that the sky is so pretty that day!

Pic #2 is beautiful !
With the dash of white clouds between the blue sky ... nice

Thanks. It is actually a combined photo with one correctly exposed for the sky and one for the building. Trying it out for the first time using this technique together with bracketing. Read the manual on how to use the bracketing just the night before. ;p downloaded photomatix to combine the photo just last night.

Check out my flickr account for this outing. Will post up some more photos later.

Turned out nicely! I like #2 quite a bit...

just a small note: Gotta ease up a bit on the 'unsharp mask' settings. The photos are starting to look a wee bit unnatural.

But overall the technical stuff is
Keep it up!

Thanks. got carried away with sharpening. After unsharp mask, used smart sharpen... ks got the better of me and overdone it... will try redoing it.

Yep, if have time to sit down and post process, can recover the shadows. But I think she'll prefer to just shoot nice pix :bsmilie:

In a way, that's better. I myself tend to be a photoshopographer and have been trying hard to move myself back to taking one-shoot-no-PP kinda shooter.

Being an event shooter myself, i tend to shoot the "one-shoot-no-PP" kind of shots just to save me time editing hundreds of photos per event but now I realise that with digital photography, PP is really unavoidable and in fact is an important skill to learn to make beautiful pictures or save throw-away ones so i'm sloooowly picking up on PP beyond the basic curves and levels adjustments. Eg. just like the way coolthought combined two pictures to get a correctly exposed pic with nice tonal range. I don't know how to do that. Must learn... ;)

Maybe you got my blue blue virus :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:
I presume you are on WB tungsten

Hello Mr Blue!
:D I'm not into blue, so no blue virus for me! I think I go back and check up the info.
Don't think I adjusted the WB to tungsten. All the pictures are normal, except this photo, that's why I posted it. :bsmilie:

Kinda too far into the blue end...
Your camera kena some kind of 'blue' virus? ;)
You removed the EXIF data? I was trying to see what focal length this was shot at.
If you were using the D90's kit lens (18-105), I guess even the long end wouldn't give enough reach to get a closer shot of the merlion.

Oh yeah! I think the data might be removed when I resized it.
Mmm.. I think the focal length might be 105, since I was trying hard to reach the merlion! Anyway, can't be sure.. need to check my EXIF data

I think this shot is quite promising.
Technical points:
- there's some flare spots showing up. Probably reflected off your UV filter.
- The lights on the roof of the esplanade 'dome' are a little soft. Perhaps they were slightly out of focus.

Composition: I think you're missing a foreground element... Too much empty floor space...

Points Noted.
The flare spots.. that will be something I don't know how to improve on.
As for the lights on the roof.. need to increase my aperture. I think I used the max aperture.

Composition wise.. will improve on that!
Thanks

Thanks for the outings and for sharing your knowledge to us! Am busy with work life, still finding ways to upload my pics here. At the meantime, hope everyone had fun!

1) If you had the UV filter on, best to remove it for night landscapes. In Singapore, we have a lot of light coming in at all angles especially in the city area. High likelihood that there will be some spotlight from somewhere pointed towards you, causing the flare.

2) Yeah, a slightly smaller aperture might have increased the depth of field, and also your kit lens' "sweet spot" is not at the maximum aperture, so stopping down should have also increased sharpness.
