You are right.

wow i so surprise D40 can shoot to b so nice too...

but my fren juz recommend me to buy @ court... he told me to paid in installment, so i no need to save $$ till so hard... but i think it not a good choice rite...

Seen some pics posted at dpreview and pics from D40 looks fantastics but not sure if any editing done. Anyone own D40 here able to post some of your work here?

Quite tempted to get either D40 or D50. Is the kit lens for this two cam the same? Will prime lens of 55mm able to be used on D40?

this pic was taken with 55-200mm lens at 125mm f/5 1/100sec

Hmm, it really depends. Why not wait till the coming PC show to see if Nikon got any good offers.

But back to the topic, I was also taken a back when I see the results from my friend's D40. Simply amazing results from this small and light camera.

Yeah...tested D40 and canon 400D, D40 produced much better results. 400D somehow looks underexposed, dark and soft. Quite like the D40 photo but the body feels like a toy:bsmilie: especially the knob. But with this price, it's a good buy i guess. Was considering D40 and D50 but can't find D50 anymore

the 400D physical outlook is very plasticky (shining plastic) where the D40 one is more textured...thats my comparison for the cameras outlook. just like buying a car, cheaper cars got shining plastic dashboard, better car's more textured...more luxurious...I'm I making sense? :bsmilie:

but features wise, 400D should be better...

Using D40 also!

As I upgraded from a PnS to D40, I'm super amazed at the quality and ease of use.

don't forget to check out Sigma HSM lens (equiv to AF-S) which can also focus on the D40.
I'm using the D40 + Sigma 10-20, quite a fun setup esp at the widest end....

Some sigma hsm lens : 10-20mm, 70-200mm, 50-150mm, 100-300mm, 30mm, 150mm, etc...

Hi,

I am a user of both nikon n canon, 1 for work 1 for hobby.
Comparing both D40 and 400D I have to agree tat the 400D looks more plastic.
However when buying a camera its better to know what you are looking for and what are you gonna shoot so as to get 1 that suits to your needs.

Canon is well known for its noise control and high speed.
Nikon sharp image and vibrant colours.

Over or under expose is determine by the user, however considering that D40's auto focus is only AFS and 6mp I would go for the D50 or D70s both will give you a more pro look than the D40 and take on all lenses.

Afterall its still your choice just my very humble thoughts.

Regards
