Wait wait wait. Let me get this right.
You all have the finances to pony up for a 3.8k camera, but not the 300+ for the battery grip, which I feel is the best that has come from Nikon lately. Feel free to correct me on my assumptions here.
I have the same feeling. I mean if you are talking about a D40 or D80, buying a third party grip is understandable. but a D700? Third party grip might just void your warranty if anything goes wrong. I dont think its a good idea since D700 is out for such a short while and that you have spent so much on it. Electronics are so easily spoilt.
That said, I am having problem with my MBD-10 for my D300...........had to send it back to Singapore via FEDEX $$$ for repair (am in USA).....I wanted a replacement as this was the second time it had problem. Before i flew, i had intermitent problem of the failure to recognize battery in the grip........they replaced the pins (supposedly). This time, everything failed except shutter button.....sent back, argue big hoohaa to get a new piece since its a recurring problem.....spoke to a guy that I can vomit blood on , supposedly their SENIOR TECH or manager Mr SIM (more on him later)....they decided to replace everything inside (supposedly) and retain the exterior.....I was like huh!Why not just change the whole piece to eliminate any problem?
I think I got a lemon. but well.
Anyway, more on Mr Sim. Am not happy in that
(1) Previously, sent in my D70s for sensor cleaning, he was the one that came out and tell me...dont check the sensor on f22 for dust, no one shoots at f22. hahahaha. Then why put the feature in the camera. I shoot studio photos sometime and go up to f16 or more.
(2) This time round, I called NSC from USA to explain my situation.....dont want to have to keep sending it back.....coz its so much to just send it. I was referred to him and so while I was explaning my situation, he was not very patient. Best part, I think he was rude. I was expaining, who is going to bear my cost if you dont replace me with a good one and I have to send it back....He sort of like shouted (or at least raised his voice) "OF COURSE YOU LAH". Yeah I know, some sort of customer service man.
Really disappointed with such Customer service. I still like my nikon though...although my wife keep telling me to just join Canon gang.
Hope they do something about the service and international warranty issues. Excuse was that International warranty cannot be done because of the difference in EXPERTISE in other countries.........I was like DUHHHHHHHHH...USA leh, JAPAN leh, HK leh....dont tell me they are behind us...some crap from him again perhaps.
