too heavy to carry around, even for nature... comes with a metal case... super heavy man... and true enough... shoot bird only... but the other more cost effective method is to use the 2X (D) ssm convertor with the 70-200 (D) ssm lens... around 4k with zoom feature... more versatile...

for those interested in that bazoka lens... it is about 1.8k second hand...

Is the 70-200 (D) SSM in town already? What is the RP?

still not in town and not in B&H... getting too long to come to the consumer market...

Actually, the ssm lens are already out in Japan, according to a Minolta user I know who has returned from Japan last month. So, if you are desperate for it, you can ask your friend who is travelling there to get it for you. However, I was told that the Japanese warranty is not International, hence if something goes wrong, you'll have to return to Japan for free servicing.

kekeke, it is in my wish list .. 'wish' only, can't justify for it. Probably cost >3K or more. Anyone has a 80-200 to throw at really ridiculous low price?

I will be throwing mine if the SSM 70-200 lens is sharper than the 80-200. But the strength of the SSM 70-200 is the shorter focal length at 1.2m which is very rare when you look at other competitors lens.

U throw, I catch! ;)

I've no doubt the 70-200 will be sharper. I assume you're refering to minimum focus distance of 1.2m, hmm.. but can advise what is the practical advantage of it? Or rather, the disadvantage of existing 80-200? Just curious :embrass:

Actually, it is the "White Side" .... the lens is white in colour ;P

Yo Guyz....

I went to sapu (sweep) the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 at that digipoint shop last week ....i was impressed on how fast it focus with the Dyn 7.

Thats where i tried the WHite Gun - 300mm F2.8. The lens at that shop did showed some signs of being used. Thay told me if any of my friends want to get this lens...can call them or drop by to negotiate...

rgds,
me

Hi, care to share what are the signs of being used? Other than scratches, I can't really imagine what can these tell tale signs be.

The white pint on the tripod screw hole area has some peeling. And the body at the tube edges has signs of rubbing .....well its kinda typical of these white lens....as i was told by some pros.

These are nothing to worry about as it does not effect the image at all. Unless the scratch is so major that it have sign of tripod "topple" dinks...then you would have to worry.

Else....these white lens are tough enough to be brought to those ruggrd places...

rgds,
me
