I've almost determined to buy the Dynax 7, 24-105 D zoom and 5600HS flash and trade away my RT and Canon set.
But, any second opinion? Any flaw of the above Minolta equipment?

dynaz 7 serve me well.....never get trouble at all....

its good camera with good price...

no regrets whatsoever. the 7 is a great camera, and has more features than the average user will ever need.

What's wrong with your Canon system? What lenses are you using?

This is very important, because you might be disappointed with the your new gear if you don't see an obvious improvement.

Bright guy you are.
RT doesn't focus well with my Sigma 17-35 and Tamron 28-200 zooms. I always have to use manual focusing but the dim view finder impedes that.
Also, don't like the idea of having to refer to user manual for custom functions for all cameras except this Dynax 7, where the fuctions are explained on the LCD.

ok, let me try

1) upgrading to a new canon body would result in faster AF

2) upgrading to a new "fast" lens would probably also result in faster AF

3) upgrading to a new "fast" lens would give you brighter image from the view finder. The camera have less to do with view finder brightness than the lens does.

4) Once you set your custom function, rarely you need to change it.

it really depand on your style. Yes, Dynax 7 is fast in AF (duel processor), with fast lens, you camera can forcus pretty fast in dim light. But, they are not so good in AF tracking(sport photography for example). Their lens are well know for Bokeh, most are rounded 9 blades circular apertures.

Thx pal.

Canon RT and the likes (EOS 1n RS) use a partially transparent non-movable mirror instead of the normal 100% reflective. 70% of light goes thru the mirror to expose the film, where 30% goes to view finder. that's y it strains the eyes in the dark. Not much of a big problem if the auto focusing is ok, but seems like it has compatibility problem with tamron n sigma lenses. The dim view finder in the dark environment makes manual focusing very, very straining.
That's y i'm discarding the system all together.

As for custom fuction, i think it either makes or breaks. without manual, an accidental adjustment to the setting would result in the undesired operation of the camera and one has no idea of what the CF settings mean.
The dilemma is examplified where one loses his manujal or he buys a 2nd hand body w/o manual.

great camera... if can choose to get a spare body, i would want to sell my 600si for another Dynax 7...

tried it at funan 6th flr, found the shutter too noisy and sounded hollow...

and bright viewfinder that could blind your eyes.

Hieee...

I find that the Dynax 7 has the following PLUS factors:

- bright viewfinder
- LCD to see your settings (useful say in night photography - no need to use a torchlight - e.g the recent fireworks during NDP)
- Film numbering stamping.....makes it easy to jot down exposure details (been using it for web postings to share with others the settings - great learning tool)
- Noisy..??......well not really.....tested it without film and with film and the shutter noise is really minimal - TRY the shutter with film in chamber and you will realize how quiet the shutter is. - Emty vessel makes the most noise applies here!!!...
- Easy access user programmable setting - menus + scroll.

My personal feel:
- Designers are smart - making the Battery compartment the axle of the film sprocket (saves space)
- Vertical grip design VERY ergo, shutter release not at he end of the grip (corner) but at the same distance from the viewfinder in the landscape orientation....
- grip is VERY comfy to my hands
-....the list goes on.

SO!!!...if there is anything i'm not happy with ...it would probably be compensated.....by these Plus factors....

regards,
me

yes, i agree fully that while the VC-7 is excelent, the 7 is already very comfortable to hold, with it's moulded grip.

one minor minus might be the difficulty to select the outer focus areas using the focus selector.

too bad no one selling 2nd hand...

I am a Nikon F100 user but I like the VC-7. Comes with 2 command dials. Also feels veri comfy

Hi guys. Just tonight I had the chance to try out a Minolta SLR. The 500si or something like that. I absolutely LOVE it!!! The Eye-start feature is so refreshingly easy to use as compared to my EOS30 and my friend's F100 & F5. There's even a 'Paranomic' view switch!! I think it's very cool to have. If my cousin had his camera with him when we were in HK shopping for my EOS, I might have came back with a Dynax 5 or 7 instead!! Read somewhere that 'Minolta makes the best bodies" and I'm starting to believe it!!
